are there any other kits similar to the Archangel or something closer to the SR-22?

i kinda like the SR and kinda like the Archangel but there are things about them i'm not to keen on.

i like the idea of being able to put everything back to the wood stock should i have the need and not having it trapped in the tacticool polymer housing like the SR is or am i mistaken?

i also like the idea of having the feed/triger/guts being polished and aftermarket parts being installed.

i'm mostly a "shotgun guy" right now but would like to get into rifle etc as funds permit

The SR22 is made out out of metal (except for the grip and buttstock), the Archangel stock is made out of polymer plastic.

If you want the SR type, look at the Nordic kit. Pretty much the SR, without the extra parts.
The Nordic is metal. So is the SR. If you already have the parts around, buying just the chassis may be a better pick, but by the time all comes together, it may be cheaper to by a SR and remove the parts you don't like for the ones you do.

There is a similar kit out there, in polymer, same concept. Can't recall the name right now. Not sure if it's still in production, even.

I was impressed with the Archangel, for what it was and cost. Seemed a pretty solid bit of gear, once assembled. Didn't feel flimsy, but you do give up the ability to swap out parts, if you go that way. The SR/Nordic accepts whatever will fit on an AR, at the rear, and you can use AR free float fore ends in place of the factory SR one.

You can usually find a Used, near new or similar, wood stock in the EE for pretty cheap, if you want the option of going to that. Or you can look at teh aftermarket wood stocks.

Tapco makes a sorta AR-ish stock too. May be to your liking.

what i was thinking of doing is buy the Ruger complete with wood stock
install some of the mods or other manufacturers (ex.Volqartsen) parts
drop it into a tacticool type stock (i'll look at the Nordic one right now) and then put it on the factory wood one whenever i decide to go back. i like the idea of having that option if i ever take it to the field instead of the range or whatever.

is anyone else using the Nordic one?

Yep! Ruger! :D It's a Nordic with Ruger's markings.

Seriously. Price out your components in advance of the buy. Buy according to the cheapest route.
Factor between $35 and $55 for a take-off wood stock with a forend band. A bit more for a Ruger factory Deluxe stock.

I'd be more inclined to buy the SR then buy the wood stock, than the other way around with buying the Nordic Kit. But suit yourself. Just sayin'. Do a price check.

Seeing guys around here spending twice and more the price of an SR, on dress-up kit for it, makes a fella wonder. But whatever. It's only money, and as long as the bills get paid first, and ya ain't starvin', go for it!

so its possible to take the actual firearm out of the stock on the SR? then drop it into a wood stock? i really dont know i've never owned a rifle yet and starting to do the research now :(
every once and a while i see a ruger on the exchange and think i should grab it then start looking at the different kit pieces and prices and for the amount i'd end up spending i could get a SR from my local outfitter and have cash over for stuff like better mag release, bolt, trigger work ect.

thanks for all the input guys!

i know the achangel kit comes disassembeled and you just drop the 10/22 action into it but can the same be said about the SR-22? can it be taken apart, thrown into a wood stock and still be able to drop it back into the SR stock?

Yes it can be. Once you get the hang of it. It can be stripped out of the Nordic shell in a matter of minutes.

I had the same questions, too. After some serious thought, I figured $550 for an SR-22 was a bit steep. I got a bone-stock 10/22 carbine, installed an SR-22 barrel, and will be installing an AK-47 underfolder as well as an M-16 pistol grip. Not too worried about originality(really??), just had a close call with a zombie gopher and didn't want that to happen again. May go black on the stock when all is said and done, not sure. Will post pics when finished.
Cheers!

Yes they are metal just like the SR22 build and not sure where to buy in canada i bought used i had an archangel kit at first but the plastic or polymer is hard for me to take, almost toyish in my opinion i love the Nordic my 22 feels like a rifle its heavy and tough lololol
