The Auto-Ordnance M1 Carbine with the Choate stock is a poor man's para-carbine. Totally useless with the stock folded and long USD too.
M1 Carbines are "tactical" as issued.

+1 - the first, and still one of the best PDW's. I'd take one over an MP7.

ETA: still a very viable CQB tool

I love my blinged M1. I changed out the barrel yrs ago, had the barrel/receiver nickeled and threw on a Choate. I love her. She's one of the least expensive rifles in my collection, but enjoyable to shoot and lighter'n all hell.
