I hope I'm asking this question in the right place.

I'm planning on getting my PAL/RPAL soon, I'm hopefully going to go do the courses/tests on March 1st. The vast majority of the guns I see myself buying are shotguns, specifically short barreled and tactical ones, as they are the firearms I have always enjoyed shooting the most.

So my question is, where do you guys shoot them? I know TSE allows slugs and buckshot, however I find it very cramped there, especially for the price of membership, and a 25 yard range isn't really a lot of room to play around with slugs.

Are there any other ranges you guys can recommend? I was mostly interested in the Homestead range outside of Calgary, however the only information I can find related to this topic is under their rules...
"# Shotguns only at the shotgun facility
# No shotguns to be used on the rifle range"
Can anybody tell me what the shotgun facility is like? Is it still free to the public? Is there plenty of room to fire off buckshot and slugs?

I realize I'm still several months away from the point of actually being able to purchase firearms, however I don't really want to go through all the complications of getting my PAL simply to buy a bunch of guns that I will never be able to shoot! :(

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read/answer :D

while tse does allow shotguns on the pistol ranges, i always use the much longer rifle range, even for a shotgun-because 1- you need 30 yards to pattern a shotgun, even with shot, if you're serious-2 using a shotgun on the pistol range damages the hell out of the backing boards ( the boards you tack your target to) and leaves a big messy hole for the guy next shooting pistol- and it's hard to find a place to tack to - and theyre more annoying than most handguns- typically, the guy that uses the shotgun is some guy straight off the street that has seen what tv and movies tell him what a shotgun can do, (very exaggerated) and wants to TRY IT FOR THE FIRST TIME- or is doing a function check- i wouldn't dream of using my 44 trapper on the short range- let alone a shotgun, b/c it's just too short
as to buying guns, i've only got 2- a winchester defender for tactial and a remmy 1100 for birds- and i'm coming up on 40 years shooting-rifes, i've got about a dozen- and you don't count 22's
