Tag under Swiss K31 rifle!

I looked up the name and address of the person listed on the tag. The town has a population of only 1400 so is good chance it is the same person. I have written him using google translation service and am awaiting a reply. It has only been a week since I mailed the letter. If I get an answer I will let you know.
The K31 is in great shape. I purchased 20 rounds of PRVI Swiss to test it and off to the range. 10 rounds at 50 yards and then to 100. First 4 at 100 were about 6 inches high. Adjusted my aim and put last 6 inside the 4 inch ring. For my 70 year old eyes this is more than satisfying. Have to get some G11 now.

I just picked up a K31 today and this is the tag I found:

You have the rifle belonging to Ernst Steiger living at Hegenheimerstrasse 7, Allschwil, Switzerland

Yes, and the "28" is most likely his year of birth. Herr Steiger was also a heavy fusilier in company IV/97. Does anybody have any idea as to how this unit numbering scheme worked?

i'v been trying to translate the tag under mine, with limited sucess. it says ...kan. homiger (could be honiger) hansi schachen ranfruh, with the two dots over the u. i think kan = cannon/gunner, but the rest i'm lost with. any ideas???

post a picture of it, and I will tell you "exactly" what it means.

can you post a picture of the tag?

@streetsweeper: Kan is short for canoneer, or bombardier as you would say. So he was in an artillery unit. The u with the dots is a "ue", a letter that's not used in english, only in german as far as I know.

Sorry to be slightly off topic but does anyone know where I can get a k31? Any dealers or ee? Also what's a good price on these beautiful rifles?

Calgary Shooting Centre had several as of yesterday when I picked up mine. At $250.00, I doubt you can beat the price.

^ What tjhaile said.

I bought mine from Calgary shooting centre sight unseen. It's in beautiful condition. Exceeded my expectations and highly recommended to anyone thinking about it. Sub $300 with tax and shipping..

Can't read the Unit.
but the soldier's name and address is:

Affolter, Fredy
Rue de l'Essor
Court, Jura Bernois,
Suisse

Thanks Polaris.

I think this was a great idea by the Swiss.

So I'm printing and laminating the details of my purchases and putting them under the buttplate of all my rifles now. I think it might be of interest to future custodians.

Wouldn't that be amazing if your Ernst Steiger was somehow related to my Jakob Steiger!
Interesting that they were both in Heavy Fusilier Companies.
Does anyone know how the Kp IV /97 and Kp IV / 109 number system works?
