Congratulations on your first deer. Way to go, however I believe you should step up a notch or two in power. Seems you are way underpowered @ .300Win mag for 200 pound animals.I'd seriously consider a 375 H&H if I were you.

The bullet drop from a 375 precludes 200yd running headshots though.

I shoot deer with a 300WM also. You just have to remember not to shoot them in the parts you want to eat if you are too close....

i was thinking the same thing.

this is not how ethical hunters take game. they do not open up on a few deer hoping to hit one or take such long shots without knowing the range. they choose a specific target and aim for the vitals.

i wouldnt call this hunting. its more like a bunch of idiots driving around until they see some deer and then unloading and hoping for the best. as soon as i read "One of the guys calls 'Ready?'" i knew i was about to learn about some rednecks shooting at game.

Good for you for taking your son out too. The firing line from multiple people at multiple does at unknown distances and running headshots may not be the introduction to hunting you want to give your son though. These aren't paper targets!
