Hello all. Long time caller, first time listener.

I have these two rifles, unfired, and am looking for insights from those who have owned both.

I bought the Ruger as a ban replacement and love the size and handling. I just bought a Taipan X and love the handling even more. Operation is SO smooth and effortless. Magazines sit better, the weight distribution feels better (to me) and it's an inch shorter OL. I have safes full of firearms that I have never shot and want to stop my habit.

I've read the limited reviews I can find on the TX but can't shake the feeling that something is going to bite me in the hiney the moment I decide to sell one of the two.

So, to the owners of both, may I ask for your thoughts on which one you would keep and why? Trust me, the answer "both" is already my default.

Thanks for any help!

The Ruger Ranch 556 is an awesome rifle for "rifleman" skills. Standing, kneeling, sitting, prone - bolt operations and mag reloads, all with a loop sling. I have a Bushnell 2.5-10x MIL reticle and made a kydex cheek riser to get a natural alignment. I added a cheap sling-swivel pic rail adapter and I can easily mount my Atlas bipod if needed.

Whoops - I haven't owned a TX - not sure if I should've replied here...

Don't have that pump/straight pull combo affair, did try an MRA Renegade so I could use my AR pieces. Had some Ruger American outfits...they have been hit and miss.
Renegade was accurate as hell thou, just couldn't stomach what an AR was reduced to there

Old man here. The Ruger 77 in .223 has been but aside as my daughters future gun.

The X will remain with me. It is a very nice feeling gun.

I made the mistake of selling guns before, wish I still had all of them. My executer can figure out what to do with my guns once I am dead and burried

I see why you have multiple safes full of unfired firearms haha

If your gut says keep it, keep it. If you enjoy them both, you enjoy them both. Nothing wrong with that. It doesn't sound like you "have" to sell either of them so just hang onto them both for now. At least until after an election and we find out if the existing bans are reversed or not.

I have both. I see them as 2 totally different firearms and wouldn't see one as a replacement for the other. So yeah, keep both.

I have several Ruger Ranch 5.56 with over 10 k rounds through them. The only parts that seem to wear out are bolt release and the extractor and thats been at 8k + mark.

Not nearly enough rounds through the Taipan X to make a determination on what may break although I am going to assume if something goes down parts may be tougher to source than with the Rugers.
