Yesterday at work i was out in the impact area of the base, along with the EOD guys, (Explosive Ordinance Disposal), we were checking the roads and what not in the impact area, so we come upon a nice shed antler, the little one in the photo, great i thought more materials for key chains and knife handles, a little hobby of mine.
Then about 10 kms later i come across this massive antler sticking out of the little bit of snow we have, i go check it out, turns out its a complete skull with both antlers, the whole skeleton was there, all the vertebra and all, it has 18 points on it, I sure wouldn't want this guy coming after me , without a rifle that is,lol.Just to give you an idea, its as wide as the box on a ford ranger!!! Great day at work, i must say so myself!!

To be honest, i think it was either old age or was shot and got away, his whole skelatal system was intact, and was lying behind an old bunker, in the middle of the 320 sq km area.

I'd put a 20 on it that the moose became an ordinance target for someone.:)

But a nice trophy none the less...

Nice find Ryan! Nice that nature did such a good job of cleaning the skull for you too!

When my shop moved to a new rental building I found some kind of cat skull on top of an old shelving unit. I think it's a lynx or small cougar. They were a siesmic outfit that had just moved out of the place so who knows where they found it. At first I thought your thread was something similar but your workspace appears to be a bit larger!

Congrats!

hahha, thanks guys, yes my workspace is quite large, It the largest training area in the Commonwealth and Nato. I get to patroll it daily, 8 hour shifts, i love it, some days i gripe about certain things, but its a great job!!

Bill C 68, there are alot of moose, bear and other that hang out in the impact for the main reason is they are not harrassed in there, there is alot of traffic on base, and alot of hunting pressure, from natives and others during regular seasons, I tell you this there are some huge animals on that base, ranging from critter to mammal and i se em!!!

Just wondering, how did you "Get to hunt the Impact"???

I had a guide who didn't care much about the rules I guess.
If I remember correctly he said zone 47 was the only one open to the public that day but the range was not live.

This was a couple of years ago, he seemed to know the area quite well.

Hey Ryan,
You working range control these days, or something else? We (RNBRA) put on some pretty good shoots on Batouche during the summer. There's always somebody who can bring an extra rifle if you want to check it out.
