Hello Fellow CGN Members;
Most of us don't pay much attention to all the political activity in the Action Centre or Discussion & Alerts forums... But, let me tell you that there is significant activity going on behind the scenes to further Restrict or Prohibit the ownership of more types of firearms & You Should Be Concerned!
The RCMP, working with the CBSA, recently seized 2 firearm shipments & then reclassified one of these shipments, legally imported by Marstar Canada, from Restricted (due to barrel length) to Prohibited. This re-classification by the RCMP, was done based upon the "internals" NOT the "receiver" & is precedent setting!!! These firearms, now classed as Prohibited, are now in-eligible for sale in Canada because the firearms themselves were not grandfathered in our system. Furthermore, the RCMP & CBSA continue to refuse to release a second shipment of firearms legally imported by CanadaAmmo, without reason.
Bill C-301, a private members bill by Mr. Garry Breitkreuz, would effectively remove the in-effective & wastefull Long Gun Registry and fulfill the Conservative Party's promise to law abiding firearm owners to remove the Long Gun Registry. BUT, and there is always a but... The Minister of Public Safety Mr. Van Loan, has introduced Bill S-5 in the Senate, effectively putting the Government Bill S-5 ahead of the private members Bill C-301.
What is Bill S-5? It is an attempt to make the current Long Gun Registry a paperless system, managed Provincially, where you would still be required to call and transfer the ownership of a firearm. Bill S-5 would also give more powers to the Chief Firearm Officers in each province. It would allow them to determine "if you require such a firearm" AND the power to allow or deny the transfer based upon their assessment of whether or not you "need" such a gun!!! See, I told you that you should be concerned!!!
Many people, myself included, have been writing letters, faxing letters & calling our Members of Parliament, demanding answers. Just have a look in the forums mentioned above. Very few of us have received replies...
So, in an effort to get the attention of the Prime Minister of Canada the Right Hon. Mr. Stephen Harper, the Hon. Minister of Public Safety, Mr. Van Loan and the Conservative Party of Canada, a fellow board member came up with what I believe to be the BEST way to get our message across to the current government. Go to the Conservative Party's website & print out their donation form BUT DON'T SEND MONEY, here is the link to the form, https://secure.conservative.ca/EN/1215/
And put this message on the form; YES to Bill C-301, NO to Bill S-5!!! Until Bill C-301 Passes, NOT A SINGLE PENNY!
Keep in mind, that you can send copies of this form to any member of Parliament FOR FREE by Canada Post! I sent my form(s) to the Conservative Party Contributions Office, yes this one cost me 52 cents, but the other two I sent, one to the Prime Minister of Canada and one the Minister of Public Safety, were FREE!!!

Remember the storm of controversy that Finance Minister Mr. Flaherty caused when he announced his plan to withhold the $1.95 that the government pays political parties for each vote they receive? It resulted in such a huge outcry that Prime Minister Stephen Harper had to prorogue Parliament to prevent his minority government from being defeated on the budget! Well, it's a message of this magnitude that law abiding firearm owners in Canada should be trying to make NOW with the Conservative Party of Canada!
Finally, if you have more time, read some of the threads in the Action Centre & the Discussions & Alerts forums. I think you will be surprised to hear what is going on behind the scenes!!!
Thank you for your time & effort!
Cheers
Jay
