take down .22

i was thinking about the getting the papoose and just cycling the action buy hand when using subsonics, what are these cb caps i keep hearing about,i know there is very little powder in them and they are quiet and slow
so what is the purpose they are designed for

CB originally stood for Conical Ball. Used a pointy, cone shaped bullet, and just the primer charge or very little powder to propel it.
Originally meant to be shot in small handguns, that were not really built well enough to handle better. And through other 22's for uses like shooting rats or squirrels up in the attic...

The name has been stuck on low velocity short shells.

If you can find them, get CB Longs. Basically the same performance, on a Long Rifle case, net result, less fouling of the chamber. Not really general plinking ammo, so the cost should not be a big deal. They are long enough to feed somewhat reliably from a magazine, in some rifles. May be worth lookin at.

Cheers

trevj answered the cb-cap question better than I would have ;), so I'll just leave you with this notion: the subsonic is NOT the same as the CB (long, short or cap)! If yo uare using a semi, the subsonic is FAR more likely to cycle than the CB, and if you are firing with urban neighbours in hearing-range, the subsonic is still loud enough to evoke a reaction..........:p

It really depends on your semi (and how stiff the springs are, etc.), but subsonics can frequently cycle the action of a semi-automatic...:)

On another note, someone here once mentioned an Ace bolt-action rifle that could fold-back its barrel for transport..it looked cool, anyhow!

Another thing is Canada Ammo has plans to import short barreled .22lr bolt actions that might work for your purpose..
My papoose is sighted for 50 yards with a red dot and bulk federals and the CB longs hit dead on at about 25 yards with out adjustments to the red dot.

Aren't they on a .22 Long case not a .22 Long Rifle case?
If I recall, my tactical inc magazines hated the CCI CB Longs because of the slightly shorter case then the standard LRs.

Maybe I'm wrong.

K, the case seems to be the same length but the bullet doesn't protrude as far out giving a smaller OAL which must be why my magazines didn't like them.

CCI CB long compared to a CCI Velocitor

I have a papoose that works just fine with Remington subsonic 22LR... Louder than a CB cap, but still bloody quiet (and accurate!).

The only problem with the Papoose is that I managed to bend the magazine well by shooting the darned thing... With no real fore-end, I guess I must have been providing too much resistance on the magazine under "recoil", and the pot metal magazine well got bent to the point where mags would not lock in place, but required herculean effort to insert and remove. Marlin IS fixing it under warranty, but they have also had the rifle for 7 months now.

I don't think I'll be buying another Marlin in my lifetime....

BSA Martini and many other single shot rifles can also be found in take-down form...

And most lever actions are easy enough to break down in two pieces.

I'm obligated to mention the AR-7.

It's not the most accurate gun ever (the barrel tends to warp from heat pretty quickly), but it certainly fits the niche well (Hell, when tucked away inside the stock, it even floats!).
