take down .22

CCI CB long compared to a CCI Velocitor

I'd say the Velocitor wins in 1 "round"....:p

I have a papoose that works just fine with Remington subsonic 22LR... Louder than a CB cap, but still bloody quiet (and accurate!).

Like I said, subsonics still have enough "oomph" to cycle many semi-auto actions...:)

The only problem with the Papoose is that I managed to bend the magazine well by shooting the darned thing... With no real fore-end, I guess I must have been providing too much resistance on the magazine under "recoil", and the pot metal magazine well got bent to the point where mags would not lock in place, but required herculean effort to insert and remove. Marlin IS fixing it under warranty, but they have also had the rifle for 7 months now.

Look at the Henry AR-7 in this thread...you have to hold it right underneath the thread-nut, against the mag well from the side (try to avoid supporting "a magazine-fed rifle" by the magazine/under the mag well whenever possible) to ensure it stays with you for a long time to come. I assuem the same goes for the papoose, which should have a bit of forend to hang-on to, no?

I don't think I'll be buying another Marlin in my lifetime....

There are many, many fine Marlin's (and Henry's, for that matter); the AR-7 and the PPS are, despite the sticker-price, curiousities and are simply not made as well as, say, their lever-actions. I've got e-mails from both companies saying something to that effect, only in nicer terms!

I'm obligated to mention the AR-7..... (the barrel tends to warp from heat pretty quickly)....

I advise you to use only high-velocity .22's in there...the hyper-velocities will work-away at your barrel over time! Plus, Mini-Mags feed you recoil you can feel in the AR-7, anyhow...so the step-up in power with a hyper-vel round is sort of unecessary....:D

He was planning on using subsonic rounds anyway, wasn't he?

That specific picture is of a Norinco knock-off of the 9422... but the real thing will look and work just the same.

You can also do it with a Marlin 39

There's also plenty of nice old pump that break down easily for packing.

And dont forget the lowly Winchester 1906 pump takedown. The great thing about this riflle is its SMALL-I had a Daisy heavier and bigger than this gun. Mine is a takedown and it shoots everything. Its a 1937 and I shoot it a lot cuz its a hoot. Pretty accurate for iron sights too. Tough little rifle. I have a 9422 that looks huge beside it.

i was thinking about the getting the papoose and just cycling the action buy hand when using subsonics, what are these cb caps i keep hearing about,i know there is very little powder in them and they are quiet and slow
so what is the purpose they are designed for

Target shooting indoors. Originally, .22 rimfire was propelled by priming compound alone; this was more than adequate for target shooting. Later, to increase velocity, some blackpowder was added to the same case.

CB carries on in the spirit of the original .22 rimfire.
