Take down 22's

i've had a couple of charter arm ar7 and a henry along with a ruger td. the ruger is a bit heavier but lots more accurate than the ar7 and henry. i have sold the charter and henry and am looking for a td ruger on the ee.
 
I have shot an AR7 (Henry) and i own a Ruger 10/22 TakeDown. I already own a heavy barrel 10/22 so I am pretty biased on the Ruger I really liked the Henry AR7 and will probably buy one when I next have a week moment on the EE or at a store.

The Ruger is good, and I like how you can keep it stock or dress it up anyway you want. I found a Hogue stock for it, and it is now the camping gun that goes everywhere with the family. The AR7 is the ultimate backpack gun I think. Everything in the size of a gun butt stock. Assembly is super easy and the accuracy is okay within 50 metres. I understand the older versions are better, built with better materials. Same is also true I believe for non-takedown Rugers.

Brownings are normally very well built, so any of the three will be good to own.

Have the Marlin. It's a great gun, but very light, which enhances the felt recoil a bit. There's also not much of a forearm. Still, I love the concept and Marlin does it very well. Seems I can hit anything I point it at.
 
Of the choices the OP gave, I'd vote for the 10/22 TD. Lots of good reviews. The lack of a fore end on the marlin papoose is a problem for me. But it is a solid choice if you want really small.

Since no one has said it, a norinco jw-20 semi auto is a great choice for a camping gun. Super fun to shoot and reliable. Expect 10 shots in 1 inch at 50 yards with CCI AR 40 grain round nose bullets. That's with the cantilever scope mount and a 4x Scopechief. You need a long eye relief for a scope. Unlike the browning sa-22, no one cries if you scratch it. They come up from time to time on EE for around $150. Of course, the cost goes up from there if you scope it.

Another choice not mentioned is the remington nylon 66. very reliable, weighs only 4 lbs. Takes a beating and doesn't need to be taken down. Is really really accurate with open sights if you are. But... a terrible trigger.
 
this is something im very interesting in.
i have the Chiappa Lil' badger and im thinking of picking up a AR7 for my boat.
and on the side ive been looking at picking up a Ruger T/D just because im a ruger 10/22 fan boy.

since that would give me 3 of the top 4/5 take down guns i was tossing around the idea of picking up a Marlin and doing some testing.
see how money shakes out this winter, my plan was to pick one up each month so the wife wouldnt scream at me and then do some testing some summer.

thats my plan anyways.
 
I d go with the Browning it s going to be my next gun in a takedown ,I already have a
Winchester 63 (miroku)
Rossi 62a
Springfield m6 scout
Varner stevens favourite
 
Used Remington 241/24? Same design as the browning but can be found cheaper than the browning and the 10/22 new if you are lucky.

I agree; have a Miroku and love it. The only thing it lacks is a decent steel scope mount for the barrel which does not require the backsight to be removed. I have a design for one in my head, but whether it will ever get made is another matter. The Leupold M8 2.5x is waiting. That aluminum scope base that sticks back over the receiver is a waste of time IMO as any mount or scope that projects past the take down point defeats the whole purpose of the take down. So that rules out the grooved receiver, not to mention the alignment issues of mounting a scope on the receiver of a take down.
 
Papoose are great, i have one in the car and one in the Titan, great SHTF rifle, been carrying them for at leat 10 years... JP.
 
The scout is great fun ,some have a problem with the different style of trigger but I easily got use to it.Mine is very accurate and both barrels shoot to the same point of aim.Because of its size if your a real big guy you may not like the fit.
 
Remington model 12 pump, Win 9422M, Taurus (Winchester copy) 63, and the Norinco JW22 copy of the Browning SA-22. Oh, and I guess an old Cooey 39 with a knurled knob main screw, so it could be taken apart without tools.
 
I've checked out some of these models, shot some of em.

Somewhere down the line I bought my son a Savage Rascal.

I was still searching for a take down but never satisfied with them. While teaching the little guy and handling the Rascal I started to consider that maybe it was the answer for me. Light, compact, shoots long, short & LR, decent usable sights, easy to scope if you want to go that route.
The LOP is short obviously but I can make it work just fine.

In the end decided to get one for myself and not bother with the take-down concept.
 
I own a marlin papoose and a jw15 backpacker.

The backpacker gets grabbed way more. The papoose is fun, but I prefer a bolt. They are both very accurate. The backpacker with the cz 10 shot mags are my choice. No takedown issues to deal with, accurate, and fun. Weighs little. My only wish is one is 22 magnum, then that would be my ultimate SHTF rifle.
 
Nice feature of the JW's 15a backpacker is that it's short enough to fit nicely in the cross gun rack of a quad without protruding out and catching branches, not pretty but very functional and accurate.I've got a Bushnell 4x rimfire scope on mine which is all I need for shooting the heads off grouse on FS roads..
