Too late to ask but I have to know. Just returned from 18B. One morning I saw a monster bull standing broadside (later paced off at 250 yards). I had the TC Encore .50x209 with 130 gr of pyrodex and a 300 gr new remington sabot (with the plastic tip). Had a few seconds to think and felt this was too far to shoot. I've sighted it in and did all my shooting at 100yds. Anyway tried stalking closer without any luck. Had lots of time to think about this since and second guess. No idea of the drop or velocity out at that distance. Would a shot at that range be an option? What's the max.?

If you were not comfortable taling the shot then you did the right thing. 250 yards is a long way for an inline and half the fun of hunting is hunting, trying to get closer. Otherwise we would carry .300 mags for everything.

250 is huge for an inline. My limit is 130. You made the right choice. That's why its called hunting.

Next time!!

IMHO, if you have to think about if the shot is too far or not, it likely is!
It doesn't matter if it is a rifle, shotgun , bow , whatever.
Even if you have a long range rig, and a range finder, if the wind is up and you start to wonder about the shot, it is too far for that situation.
Same as if he is standing 40 yards from you, but you cannot see clearly, only antlers, the shot iis a "no-go".
It is never a WRONG decision to pass on a shot.......
