Looking for a proper case for a takedown savage 99.

I’d like something classy like leather or waxed canvas with a shearling or cotton lining.

There are a few options out there from frost River, boyt etc but they are all for shotguns with 28-34” inch barrels. I’d like something high quality and compact (well fitted to the 24” barrel) that will protect it well as it will be riding in an aircraft a lot.

Anyone know where a guy could get something like this?

Zywina, thanks for the tip. Any way you could post up a couple pictures if your case?

Geologist, that’s a good point and the whole reason behind the custom case. I’d like to be able to tuck it somewhere accessible which varies depending on what aircraft I’m in.

I put together something in a thread on this forum for a win 94, built at a friends shop, he’s a full time leather guy. I’m sure he could duplicate or adjust to your wants and make a much nicer product than I can if your interested send me a PM.

I should let you know though, costs will likely be as much or more than a run of the mill 308 winchester 1899

If it has to go into aircraft where space is always at a premium, I recommend a softer case as they take less room and are appreciated by the flight crew.

i used an hard case for my take down rifle in small planes like cessna c172 and 182 and of course beaver and otter. while they may take less room your gun is not safe if not protected.

i used one that i got from clay and that perfectly the barrel of a 300 savage take down.

I take only iron sighted work guns on planes so yes, it's different. Mine can take a few hard knocks and it won't affect the irons.

If i was to do a fly in hunting trip, I'd use a hard case on the jet flight to where the charter takes off and then switch over to a padded soft case for flying into the hunting camp.

Do you have a pic of the case? My rifle is also a 300 savage with a straight stock and 24” barrel.

Looking for a compact case that can be tucked away in a helicopter. I am the pilot so if anyone is bashing around my rifle they will have a long walk ahead of them.

I like tripod bags, cheap, light. I line them with cheap sleeping bag closed cell foam pads.

This one is 24" long but they come in various lengths.

I have some awesome canvas, I can sew, if I could get my hand on the same rifle you have I could most likely make one... but it would be pricey, canvas is $30+/yard and then there is lining plus the other possible stuff.... and time!! I don’t think I could make one for less than $300....

That is one I made for my no1 S 9.3x62 to carry while snowmobiling and bison hunting, it is not lined just simple canvas back pack style!

Have you considered sewing/having someone sew a roll with two pouches from canvas or just using a small survival blanket? Even a camera lens bag or small duffle.

Lots of ar 15 30 inch cases for cheap in the states

It might not be what you're looking for, but have you looked at the Skinner website?

DGY; Thank you for the offer but for the money I think Id just as soon try to stitch one up myself

double gun ; I have, and more of the same shotgun cases that are just too long

Conor; thats probably what Ill end up trying. Most cases seem to be too bulky id like something compact

Wendell; I really like the design of the skinner products, and the price is right. Im looking for something along those lines but with more traditional materials

Phil; thank you for the pics. Your case looks great for hunting and with a scope. I wont be scoping my rifle and it will ride around every day not just a transport for a hunt so ill need somthing more compact than that.
