I would like to take my friend out rabbit hunting......

So I can see yes, for deer etc. the second person would need a Hunter's Safety and a license

but....... I see that no license is needed for rabbits, and since the Hunter's Safety is to get a license ,

would it make sense that no Hunter's Safety is necessary for a simple rabbit hunt?

It seriously appears that way when I carefully read the regs

Any experiences?

As long as the unlicensed person is "under your (licensed) supervision", you're good to go.

As of next year you will apparently need a Manitoba Hunter Safety Certificate to purchase a hunting license of any sort in Manitoba. Only contraindication of this would be if you held a hunting license in or before 1974 I believe.

Strangely for some unknown reason Manitoba does not recognize the federal safe gun handling course required by the Feds that was/is needed to obtain the former FAC or the recent possession/acquisition card... or whatever it's called these days.

Seeing that Manitoba has no "rabbit" license and they can be hunted year round by anyone, it would then appear that one does not need a hunter safety to partake in the aforementioned activity. BUT, to legally own a firearm in Canada, one has to have the firearm registered and thus would have at least been required pass the Federal safe gun handling course in order to own a firearm.
