I know i need an ATT to take my 1911 to the smith. But whats the procedure fro getting one for that reason?

Your LTATT should cover delivering your piece to a smith both ways.

As I said...this is Ontario. Can you imagine I can take my guns to the range every day and suddenly I can't safely take them to a gunsmith without a special permit.
The good news is that you can get it over the phone IF you get through. Why is that good news??

Yep, Wendell's sig line is a great place to start. Even an AB only LTATT covers the US border AFAIK.
