Taking all suggestions for first time gun purchase

I've shot many different handguns and have only ever owned a Sig P226. It's hands down the best overall in ergonomics, accuracy, function, etc (in my opinion). It's a bit of an ugly duckling aesthetically, but so are most others. I wish I did not sell mine, but I stopped going to the range for a while. Getting back into it now and I actually just picked up a Steyr L9-A1 to try out, as I've never handled one before and always wanted to.

I plan to buy another P226 soon, when the right deal comes around.

Glock is OK, they operate well, and are great for parts availability, but ergonomics turned me off personally. If your son wants to be a cop and plans to use a Glock then that'd be the one to get for him to train with... however if you plan to shoot frequently yourself just put a few downrange with a 226 you'll see what I'm talking about.
