Taking Milsurps Across The Border

Howdy fellow members, how ya all doing ?? :D Just wanna ask a quick question, do you guys know if it's legal to take milsurps across the border ? The thing is that I might move to the States in the future, although it's still many years from now, I just cannot let go of my collection by then... I have a few none-restricted milsurp rifles I'm hoping to take with me... Is it possible ? Any insight would be appreciated, thanks :)
 
Yes it is possible if it is a permanent or longtime move, but with certain restrictions. Any so-called Assault rifles (AK, FN-FAL,etc.), Russian military semi-autos rifles, Chinese Norinco rifles and certain short barreled revolvers are not permitted. You need to contact the US BATF to get a form 6 approved before the move and they will confirm any model that is not permitted. A Form 6 is good for a year.
 
Get ahold of the BATF (as mentioned above) and get ahold of state/local authorities for where you plan to move. Some states have different laws.

Also, let the CFC and Canada Customs (or whatever they're called now) know, so that you don't get hassled when you come back!

there is a gunshop in MT who does lots of imports of firearms. i think they charge 25$ per rifle, to look after all the paper work , and importation for you, if you want to go that way.

"...any US surplused firearms..." That'd be Lend-Lease firearms. The U.S. Gun Control Act of 1968 made the re-importation of Lend-Lease firearms from any source illegal. Mind you, I'm hearing rumours on the U.S. forums that the ATF, their government agency that's allowed to make law by regulation, maybe changing this. The Form 6 is for hunters and target shooters taking firearms into the U.S. temporarily.
Slick Willy banned the importation of Chinese made firearms illegal in 1985.
Moving Stateside means you'll get to comply with all Federal, State and sometimes municipal gun laws. Nearly every State has minimum residency requirements before you can own a firearm too.
One thing that's not well known is that if you have an imported vehicle, you'll have to pay U.S. duty on it.
