taking off an ar barrel

There should never be loctite on those threads, there should be a small application of anti seize compound though. Make sure you have the inside if the reciever filled, depending on which type of reciever block you have, otherwise you will damage the reciever. I have removed lots of barrels from AR's and have never had to use heat. Even the Norks come apart quite easily for me. Wonder if I'm doing it wrong or something. LOL

You know where I live. Drop by, it is Christmas time:)

Casey

Thanks for the kind offer, I may take you up on that. I am going to try heat tomorrow...and then I may drop you a PM!

I am using what appears to be a good wrench, the right vice insert (now) put a few scratches into the upper receiver using the wrong one, and keeping the insert in the receiver while working on it.

I know I am going to mess this upper up, but it is my learner. I have already learnt a lot about the inner workings of the AR from playing around with it.

Some manufacturers (very few ) use loctite on the barrel nut. RRA ( arrrg....loctite red ! ) with the FF tube and Knights Armament SR-15 for example

First RRA forend went flying across the shop after I got it off. Thats when I saw the red loctite...knew better next time

BTW - nothing wrong with using a torch on it if you are careful . Contrary to popular belief, you will not weaken the T-6 heat treat ( overage ). You need to be well over 250degF do do this. Get a tempilstik if you are concerned about getting too crazy with the torch

Arwenace is on steroids or I have the arms of a little girl...thanks casey :D

For real, either the oil soaked in more, my wrench sucks (maybe it is an ar10 wrench or something), or I just was missing something, but casey just popped it off.
I will turn in my man card until I earn it back, maybe wrestling a bear or something.

Thanks again casey!

Don't turn it in that easy, I am sure Casey has done this a few more times than you.
I cut mine off so don't feel too bad.
