In Ontario that's a big NONO until you have received your FRC. A lot of people mistakenly believe that they can take their brand new pistol to the club under the mistaken belief that the Transfer Notification (Buyer) form allows them to do that as soon as they receive it. Be careful because in Ontario (I don't know about the other Provinces) you can be charged for unauthorized transportation of a restricted firearm. If you don't believe me, just call the CFO of Ontario.

Not news here in Alberta. Always have to have the registration certificate with the pistol. A transfer notice is not a registration certificate.

Under your Transfer notification, it gives you the 'new registration certificate #' showing that it is legally registered to you and that the registration is complete. It is the first block. This is the same info that is on your FRC. I was told that this is what you are to carry in place of your FRC until it arrives. It has the same information. This was the procedure forever. I have not heard that it has changed. Has it? I need to inquire about a trade tomorrow, I will double check with the CFO and post the 'official' response.

I agree 100% but that's the law here in Ontario. I certainly won't be taking my new Shadow 2 to the club until the FRC arrives.

Did the CFO tell you that the Transfer Notification (Buyer) form allows you to bring your firearm home from the store? If so, then it must be a defacto registration certificate, or else they would have been counseling you to break the law.

I agree^^^^
CFO office in Ontario has always told me otherwise. And I always bring it up every chance I get. As long as the firearm has been registered to you, proof in the transfer notification I was good to go.
Must be a Shadow 2 thing...

What is the honest legal truth to this? I live in the GTA and would like to know. People are phoning the rcmp and cfo and getting varying info. What are we suppose to belive?

I was told it's not the right document, you need the yellow reg card. However if you did get your pistol confiscated , you have 14 days to prove that's it's yours.
CFO in my Province, told me that it will be up to the LEO,s discretion , if you lose your firearm or not.

If in doubt, wait for the registration. I always do.
Don't care what anyone says because I'll be the one who possibly gets charged if I don't have it.

When I called the Ontario CFO recently and the lady on the phone told me I need the yellowish registration form. It doesn't make sense to me because all the info is there.

image.jpgHere's a pic of a former discussion , regarding the same issue. If you get stopped without a reg cert, it depends on the Officer who stops you. He may say your transfer slip is good.
Or he may confiscate your firearm.
If he takes it, you then have 14 days to produce the registration certificate .

Bottom line is that the choice is yours. You can wait the two weeks, or you can take it to the range with your transfer notice which provides proof of registration. I have owned firearms since 1992, and have NEVER heard of any legal firearms owner losing their firearm because they bought a new firearm and took it to the range prior for the slip to come in. If anyone can show a news clipping showing a legal owner losing their firearms due to this, please do so, otherwise just leave people make up their own choice. As far as the Shadow 2, this is not JUST a gun, and people buying this cant wait to get it to the range and they will. Why not? it is legally registered to them with the registration # and the name on the transfer notification. end of story. If you want to wait until your actual registration certificate comes in, but let other people make their choice.
These are threads that moderators should just close as all they provide is ammunition for people to argue back and forth. and I truly believe that this was the intent of this thread. Again, if you feel that you should wait until the yellow slip comes in, by all means do so!

I agree with above^^^^^
I have a question. Where is it written that you may pick up your newly acquired firearm from the seller and bring it home with the transfer notification? What if you are stopped by law inforcement. Is it under his descretion if he is to confiscate it, and you are to have 15 days to bring to them your registration to get it back as well? Or just because CFO said you are allowed to go pick up your firearm with the transfer notification Makes it legal. If you have all the transport permissions added to your rpal, why can you pick up your new firearm from seller and not allowed to take it to the range.

when I bought my new S&W, the LGS called me up to tell me I could pick it up and bring it home. I tossed the transfer notice in the box and drove away. The Owner said that's what the CFO directed him to tell his customers.

I agree , it's up to you, what you do. I've taken mine the range with the transfer only.
Mostly because I think the LEO , around here , are a little more relaxed.
I jus sold and bought 4 restricted , I had to get an ATT from the CFP, for each one. To bring and receive from the P.O. It was done in a matter of minutes, and emailed to me,while still on the phone with them.
Again , I agree it's up to you, what you do.

IF they (the law) wanted to get particular about things tho...on the temp sheet it does say something to the effect of "this doesn't let you carry your new item home", that an att is still required beyond this point..

not trying to argue, it's just something that left me a little confused when I got my first R a few months back..
calling the included phone # tho (rcmp/cfo can't remember which) I was told I was good to go, that the att is attached to my rpal
