Talk me into buying an SKS

I think your gonna find as I did that with a new baby on the way shooting will take a vacation for a year or two. Save for your child as they will be your pride and joy for a long long time.

Then if your still into shooting after save and buy an SKS.
 
If it's a great deal and you can afford ammunition as well as being able to find the time to use it outside of caring for your newborn (it's also a good idea to be able to sell it quick if need be), then go for it.

On the other hand, being prepared for anything that may come up with the new child is also a great idea. I recently heard it can cost upwards of $250,000 to raise a child. I of course have not verified this information at this current point in time and apologize if it may be incorrect.
 
cheap gun, decently accurate, super cheap and abundant suprlus ammo, goes bang every time... easy to dismantle and mod. cheap to clean and fun to shoot... cant say $200 will net you the same amount of positives in a hand gun...

I prefer being outside on a beautiful day with nature shooting hundreds upon hundreds of rounds with my SKS rather than in any strict, cold, sterile, urban shooting range with a pistol.
 
Oh, I have a kid on the way in July. The last SKS I bought (two weeks ago) is going straight into storage until she's old enough to use it. Just some food for thought. :)
 
No new toys for you if money is tight and a baby's coming. Mind you, if you don't buy one now, the Socialist F**ks will very likely make 'em too evil for you to buy one to hand down to the FNG.
 
Buy one! But don't be like me and piss away a ton of money on aftermarket junk that doesn't really work.
I'm going to buy another but leave it all original.
 
Let's see.....fun to shoot, cheap and readily available ammo, reliable firearm, good for plinking and/or deer, fairly easy to maintain.....what's not to like? That said, your child takes priority. Not knowing your financial situation, I would say that if the budget can stand it, go for it.
