so i want to offload my 9.3x62mm Tikka for the fact im not using it enough nd when i do use it im not good with it.. buffalo isnt on the menu and there is still a 35 whelen in the safe..

my Marlin X7 is advertised online for sale with a leupold scope vx2 x50 for $800 an had a bite for bare rifle at $500...
the question here is the fact i am also sitting on a cheap rifle sale of a Stevens 200 in 30-06 with leupold rings for $250 ...
the thoughts here is that the Stevens is a no frills Savage with typically a heavy trigger....
Do i need the Marlin, the money or something in 308 for shorter, lighter (minimal) rifle as a go to bush gun on the sambar.

Using a Mossberg Patriot in NZ proved to be a good thing for a budget hunting gun, as did the Marlin back here in Aus, as does my mates Savage Edge 308 ...
i feel it is a step back from the Marlin , but i gain $250-400 an still end up with a sambar smacker i can throw in the mud an scratch up etc.....

the hevy trigger ive witnessed on a Stevens 243 iirc reminds me of a savage axis/edge , which is noticibly heavier the nthat marlin of mine...

but is the Marlin what im after... a budget solid huntin gun.. The on goin quest for that perfect rifle saga.....?

what you say?

ideally im lookin for a LH Savage in someting basic, synthetic, stainless, ...hard to find here.

maybe il sit on the marlin until i find LH sav

Bought a Stevens 200 really cheap. Sold the barrel and re-threaded a 10BA Stealth barrel I had in 6.5 Cr. Did the trigger and made a beauty of a rifle for less than $300 all in. Nothing fancy just very functional and cheap.

I have a stevens 200 SA, rebarreled to 284win with a shilen prefit and added a basix 2 trigger, i love the gun, i wouldnt talk some one out of one if its what they wanted. But i would if i knew they didnt want it or really wanted something else i probanly would.

It had an adjustable trigger from factory, It went pretty light

The 200 is a variant of 110 series not the axis.

I'm very well aware of what a Stevens 200 is as well as what the 110 represents.
He did mention something 'bout selling the Marlin and whispered something 'bout an Axis.
Next thing you know he'll be cuss'in 'bout dem dar magclippy thangs if he stumpbells
awn an Axis.
The crystawl bawl be tellith these things.

I think you're right in the marlin bein paid for an owned now without losing out an holding off for a lefty version run about gun.
the guy wants 750 without the scope which i cant jump on right now, someones keen for the package so will wait and see.

taking the marlin out backpack huntin next weekend for a few days, should be good

I have a 200 in 300 win mag.... aside from weighing nothing (hits like a freight train), and the pencil barrel, ive been very happy with it for 1 shot strings on dirt pigs ;)

Any more than a couple shots at a time and you develop a serious twitch.
If only I knew a good machinist to put a brake on it.....

spot on mate, this is some of the things i like about the 200, its used for big game, seldom shootin strings, they weigh bugger all and isnt a pretty safe queen by any means!

fingers crossed i have a guy keen on my marlin 3006 which would open up the fund pool to jump on the savage left hander , an at worst a stevens 200 isnt out of the questions for the price

I bought a Stevens 200 in 300 Mag about 15 years ago, or so. It came with a hockey puck rather than a recoil pad. ;)

That gets turned into a pussycat simply by installing a decent recoil pad that costs around $60, is about $100 less than a brake, and much quieter.

Had it out a few days ago, and it shot 180 gr bullets to the same point of aim it was sighted in for eight years ago. The same fixed 4X is still on board, has never had to been adjusted one time, and the outfit is light enough to carry on a sheep hunt.
