Talk me out of buying a CZ 527 7.62x39 carbine.

What are we talking, 2-4 inch groups, 4-6 inch?

thanks

My eyesight is not what it used to be, but with irons and a rest at 50 yards, last time we were out, 4 of 5 rounds I can place inside a quarter. Both the PRVI and Sellier ammo shot the best, but we're not getting too many options in the ammo stores lately. I'd like to try some more.

The surplus czech ammo shoots quite good (corrosive), but I think its not loaded as hot as the PRVI and Sellier because the surplus groups were a few inches lower. I had originally suspected a weight difference with the bullet, but after pulling several dozen of each PVRI and czech surplus, they weight exactly 123 grains each, and only slight differences in the boat tail. Taking weight of the powder is just a waste of time without knowing its manufacture specs.

Maybe next time I get out with the CZ, I can get some target pics once the scope is tuned. I'd like to have an accurate benchmark at 100 yards.

In all sincerity, I've been wondering about the '92 clones. .357 would be best for me, because I have dies, assloads of brass, powder, recipes, and experience with it and .38 Special.

the rossi i have is chambered for 454 casul , which is a very high presure round . the quality of the steel needs to be very good to take this kind of pressure .

the fit and finsh is all very good ( about a thousand times better than the norinco sks i have ) , i would not hesitate to buy another , in fact once the registry is done for i might buy 2 or 3 more and have one rebarreled to 41colt .

I have a new one of these 527 rifles, really lucked out on the wood. My trigger must have been altered by the previous owner as it is quite nice. I took off the front sight and mounted a 3-9 Conquest with the $76.00(ouch) Leupold rings. I have only shot one box of Sellier with it and it is nice at 100 yards. I have all the gear and related supplies for loading this round, but I also have a pile of other factory offerings to try out. Some Sako and norinco , both supposed to be non corrosive. I'm pretty sure that if you stick this bore near a bears face a pull the trigger, he ain't going any where near the outhouse. FS

While we're looking at options, is anyone else making a bolt rifle that

  • is chambered in a moderate-power centerfire cartridge larger than .223
  • has a barrel 20" or shorter
  • has factory iron sights
  • has a wooden stock
  • hasn't got friggin' rails all over it, and
  • isn't really damned ugly?
Or are CZ the only ones with that kind of common sense these days?

A Model Seven would pretty much fit that bill and offer better cartridges.

OR ........ just buy a 30/06 from Trade Ex and have it cut back to 20". He may even have some carbines just for you.

Click your trigger forward, it becomes a hair trigger. The 527 is not big in the size department, but its big on quality and design.

Cz527 carbine is one of those guns you will will either like or not. I love the set trigger and removable mag, but didn't like how the 5rd mag stuck out too much on the bottom for carry. For my hand the bolt is too small, you need higher rings to clear the scope and a cheekpiece. The stock is designed for irons. Of course all these things can be modified, but then add that to the cost. You will probably need a stronger firing pin spring to shoot that Czech milsurp. I even need one for my Mauser conversion 7.62x39. Czech milsurp is great for plinking, but accurate it's not. My bolt action will keep them inside 4" at 100yds, but once in awhile a flyer appears to open that up. I have handloads for that rifle that will shoot under 1" so I know the barrel is spot on.

Model 7 would be my pick if your spending that much for a new gun in .243, .260 or .308 without mods.

The trigger can be easily adjusted to get rid of the creep in the unset position by following the instructions in the manual. All it takes is a small flat bladed screwdriver, a 6mm wrench, and a 7mm wrench.

I also managed to luck out on wood with my CZ:

With all due respect, Sir, you are a crazy whore. The Model Seven™ does not offer controlled-round feeding, and that makes it morally and ethically unsuitable for shooting anything more dangerous than rain-soaked newspaper. Untold legions of dead moose and deer will agree with me; their bud-browsing souls ruminate dolefully in Limbo because they were sent to the Great Beyond via the offices of a vulgar upstate pushfeed.

*haughty sniff*

Not good enough. Not good enough to be my bat defense rifle.

(Hello, Supe! How ya been?)

Ya think?

Yeah. That's some lovely lumber.

Wish those crazy, Pilsener-slurping #####es offered iron sights on everything by default, though. None of their American-stocked .22s have 'em, for example. Have to buy an Austrian humpback to get a rimfire with irons out of 'em. If that weren't the case, I'd have one three years ago.

CZ 527 - 6.5 Grendel

I have a few interesting sporting pistols, and a decent slug/grouse defense shotgun, but have been without a rifle for a few years, now. Thinking I should have a rifle, though, in case a black bear ever decides to get between me and my s4ithouse at the lake, or if Doug finally decides to stop hunting whitetailed deer and therefore leaves some for the rest of us.

I like the looks of this thing. It's small and light, like my wallet. I could store it and transport it easily, and carry it all day. I like that it comes with iron sights. I also appreciate that it eats a small, cheap, corrosively-primed steelcased milsurp plinking cartridge that costs more to dispose of ethically than it does to buy. (East Bloc primers: Now with extra mercury!)

And it's got controlled-round feeding, girls! Yes! Controlled-round feeding. That means, the next time I'm set upon by a ravenous pack of porcupines and find myself rolling ass-over-brainbucket down a loamy hill with my suspenders flailing around my ears while shrieking like a little girl (six times now), I won't have my precious live rounds (five for a dollar, made of real metal) spilling out of my breech cluttering up the environment (I love the environment) and possibly putting out an eye.

So. Yeah. Please help me prevent an act of indebtedness. 'Cause I'd be way better off with one of those Marstar Norinco carbeens, right?

Right?

You can re barrel it to 6.5 Grendel and you will have an awesome rifle for most game animals to 300 yards.

If you don't hand load Hornady are making ammo.

Jesus. If a critter's so frightening that I've gotta be 300 yards away from it to shoot it, I'll just run an extra 300 yards in the opposite direction and call Vancouver airport security to come save me. Besides, the outhouse is only about 50 feet from the shack.

Interesting cartridge, though. Googled it.

Hmm.

Not completedly, no. While some august Remingwhores of good standing have push-fed compelling arguments, I feel I remain in control of of the round. Plus, this past weekend's chipmunk assault at the lake has me groaning for a proper stopper rifle.

And it's almost GIANT BAT SEASON. Kids... Pay attention: GIANT. BATS.

So.

Good trigger? Potentially beautiful lumber? Cheap to shoot? Czech made great quality firearm, you say?Horrible.Controlled round feed? Don't do it man, I mean quality firearms, pshaw, who needs it?

Buy a cheap Savage instead and then you have something to post about in the gunsmithing and finally the EE forums.
