I'm about halfway saving wise to buying either a tuned Norc m95 or a heritage arms rough rider. Talk me out of buying either of these two guns and waiting for either a Ruger 22/45 or a single six or a Uberti Stallion with the 2 cylinders.

Are they really that much better Ie the Rugers and the Uberti or is this just a myth. :( Really don't know how the Single action revolver gets back in there but every time I look at handguns I go to the 1911 and the single action revolvers. Kind of like every time I look for a black rifle I end up looking at the Lee-Enfields and Norc m-14s :D Bah Why can't I like Glocks and Berettas and M-15 and such. Damn it

Helps with the Norc, the Rough riders still made in the US and the Ubertis made in Italy guess I don't have as many issues with them as I do the Chinese.

Have you handled a rough rider? Finish is terrible, and they don't look or feel like they are made in the US that is for sure.

The ones I have handled were absolutely terrible as far as fit and finsih is concerned. Miles from what you will get with a 22/45! They are also very small, and feel like a childs toy even in my medium sized hands. I was thinking the same thing as you, but decided against it and bought a North American Arms Mini Master.

I like a bargain as much as the next guy but sometimes cheap does not mean it's a bargain!

I haven't even found a gun store I have time to go to at this point. I tried finding Al's in Hamilton no such luck. Got lost again god I hate Hamilton.
and there just is not much in Mississauga.

Hey compboy simmons doesnt have the heritage stuff anyways. Seth at Lanz shooting supplies at Silverdale has had them in stock but not sure if he does now. He doesnt have a 22/45 though but I guarantee you that the 22/45 is a nicer gun.

Now at the same time I have done quite a bit of research on th gsg1911 and if I was buying a semi auto 22 today that is the way Id go.

Cheers
Mark

P.S. If you are going to Silverdale let me know maby we can hit the range.

The Ruger 22/45 is one of the best 22LR pistols out there and it's affordable.

However, I know the pull of cheap guns that work.

That said, the Rough Riders are a pass for me. Fit and finish is meh! Add in the Safety and it's a complete no sale.

Yeah that's why the Uberti hit the list, I want the multi-click like the original. I don't much like the other two safeties just cuz well it's suppose to be a colt peacemaker right? and I know it should be in 45 to be accurate but man my budget can't handle that.

I know lots of people are bringing that one up again and again so I may save for that one. It might even solve my 1911 issue god I want one of those. :D
My question those is how does it look after a couple bricks of ammo since I bought my .22 rifle I've gone through about 2000 rounds in it and it looks exactly like it did when I got it but it's used. I'm worried the gun has no lasting power. I've heard some reviews of the Rough rider saying it's showing signs of wearing after like 1000 rounds that scares me.

I don't know I really would love to get a range day in but the wife is working six days a week just came off a 12 day stint and I haven't been to the range in about 4 months or more. TOO much going on right now for a run down to Silverdale. I will admit that Canadian gun nutz shoot we did really got me interested in that place, I think it was summer 2010 but this last year has just sucked for time off I'm either looking after kids while the wife works or working. Hopefully after we buy the house we can slow down a little but I'm not holding my breath it's always something. This weekend it's Cadet rifle day on Saturday and with only one car not going Silverdale. Blah I need to clone me but then I'd be pissed that some other dude gets to shoot my guns. :D

Can't go wrong with a single six or 22/45. Used or new they are built well. You can buy a lesser pistol but will still end up buying a ruger later on anyway...cut the middle man and go straight for Ruger. I'm bias though :)

No problem, its made in china... Help you you a bit? ;)

That's such a BS argument that might have held water 10 years ago.

The Chinese have huge a manufacturing base and a workforce willing to work virtually for free because if not, they starve to death.

The US has no manufacturing base and a workforce that expects minimum wage, health care, insurance, a pension and if not, goes on welfare and foodstamps or goes on strike until their crybaby demands are met.

Who do you think is going to build a better quality product?

I have both the American made rough rider and the Chinese Nork M93.

The Rough Rider runs like there's sand in it, the sights are off and can't be zero'd and overall it's a crappy product. The M93 has thousands of rounds fired and reliably shoots any brand of .22 I put in the mag and even though the rear sight wobbles loose, it was one of the best gun purchases I've ever made.

The only reason any American or European made good is so expensive is because of liberal bureaucracy and entitlement programs - not because they are a superior product.

The economic end is coming to the Western world - prepare for it now buy buying inexpensive Chinese guns and using the 50% you saved to stockpile food, water, ammo and silver.

Conversely, you can be "proud" and support the uncompetitive system we have here and buy junk made by lazy people - and when the stores run out of food - well, your out of luck.

Just as a comparison:

$500 = Norinco M93, 5250 rounds of Federal Champions, 1 Silver Maple, and 40 lbs of rice
or
$500 = Ruger Single Six (almost - you're short about $25)

[/rant]

Seriously though - get the M93 from Marstar - you won't regret it.

The Ruger single six and the 22/45 are fantastic I have one of each and have put thousands of trouble free rounds through both of them. The 1911 norinco is also a fine semi auto; mine never has had any issues in the thousand or so rounds that have been fired. I think if you are having trouble making up your mind you should just purchase one of each.

The GSG is an amazing gun. And not just for the price. I know of one that has held up decently to about 3 months of rental shooting. Trust me, that's more shooting with it than you would do in 3 years.

The Ruger 22/45 is a great shooter but it's got a very thin grip area. Not like a real 1911 at all. If you get one I'd suggest paying the bit more for the one with actual screw on grips so it's fatter and fits an adult's hand instead of the flat as a board regular version.

If you're looking for a revolver then pony up a bit more money and get a new or used Single Six. I just got an older worn but not abused late 50's to mid 60's 3 screw version with fixed sights for a lowly $150. You may need to be patient to trip over something like that but it shows that they are out there.

There was also a sweet looking S&W 422 in the EE for $329. I LOOOOOOOVE my own 422 and it and it's shiney brother the 2206 are two of my most reliable guns. You could do far, far worse than to pick that one up or one like it for similar money.

So there ARE good deals on .22's out there. You just need to sharpen up your hunting skills and scout out alternate sources and types. Far better to buy a better used gun than a cheap new gun.
