Talk me out or into getting a Tanfolio

Spend your money on ammo and training.

I would say the same.
You will not outshoot a Shadow 2 for a very, very long time. Training, Ammo and eventually a progressive press (if you're "in to" reloading) to shoot more.

There are a few threads on Shadow 2 vs Tanfoglio's, but they are pretty similar so you're not really upgrading or anything. Plan on shooting 1500 rounds / month and come back after 3 years to see if you need a different gun.

I appreciate all of your input. I like how I can get answers from so many perspective by just posting what's on my mind.

The DD has a Strike Eagle 1-8 on it, though the eye box is pretty tight on higher magnifications I'm keeping it until I have time to shoot more.
Will be finally putting the 650 to use (it's still in the box) and will be getting dies etc.
As for the cz shadow 2 grip, that remains as something I'll have to experiment with..

Again thank you for helping out a newbie who has difficulty with his spending problem (pretty sure I'm not alone here :)).

You're a new shooter wanting to get into IPSC and already have one of the best production class guns made. If you're looking for help spending: $500 in reloading components and another $500 in mags and an IPSC rig will be money well spent. Oh and a nice range bag for another $200 +...IPSC timer $150... Man I could go on and on.

If you want it, go buy it, stop beating yourself up. I'm one of the few it seems who owned a Shadow and sold it. I had a couple of little things I didn't like. I bought a Stock 3 Extreme and love it.

If you want the S3X - just buy it. But then commit to shooting one of them and training with which ever you choose to be your primary gun. Don't try to go back and forth, that'll just frustrate you. If you want to do your BB course, spend a fair amount of time getting proficient with your gun before you do the course. Take the course and start shooting matches, it's amazing fun.

Good advice right there! If your brain is egging you on to buy it, you'll never feel fulfilled NOT having it every time you shoot your S2 and you'll always find some reason not to like the S2.

As KB007 says, shoot both and choose one to master in accuracy. Shoot it a LOT and shoot it a LOT more and then repeat that. When you get to the point in your shooting skills where you can put all 10rnds from a mag (no time limit) into a paper plate sized target at 20-25yrds, sign up for a Black Badge course. It's a LOT of fun as I'm finding out but demanding for accuracy, speed and being UBER familiar and comfortable with the workings of your pistol. I wish I'd taken that BB course decades ago!

I agree with the posts above, you're making good money you can afford it, the wife is away, your heart yearns for it, what exactly is the question here? :)

Guns are an investment, as long as you don't beat it up real bad, you'll likely be able to sell it at a profit in a few years.

Also, for the black badge, pay attention to the double action pull, practice it, get good at it.

Sometimes you need to scratch the itch, even if the itch makes no sense at all.

But in your case it makes more sense to learn what you like in a gun first, rather than shopping on curb appeal.

You can buy, try, and sell if you can afford to lose the money on it - I consider that the "rental fee" for trying a gun that I don't really like.

Or you can wait and bump into someone with something similar and perhaps get to try it out.

And 30cm? you must have bear paws if you span a whole foot! Maybe one of those pacmayer slip on wrap around grip sleeves? I don't know... I plain do NOT like the feel of those CZ aluminum grips. Far too Glocky. I prefer either the OEM rubbers the Shadow comes with or the VZ palm swell CZ grips.

I do not have a Shadow 2 so cannot comment on compatibility
