Talk to me about the Grand Power P40

I'm looking for a 10mm pistol, having held some Glocks and seen what's out there in 1911 land, I think the P40 is where I want to be.

Are there any other commonly available 10mm pistols available that I'm over looking? Sig 220 is out of budget, Glocks don't work for my hands, and any other 10mm (bren ten, sw 1006) seem to be unicorns to find.

Any issues with the rotating barrel lockup? General build quality issues? Has anyone run into problems running hot loads through the gun as well? There isn't a whole bunch of information out on the P40

How has Grand Power been to deal with in regards to warranty issues?

All info appreciated!

Dunno about the GP...so far I haven't heard anything bad about them and I'd be interested in trying one out.

I have an EAA all-steel Witness in 10mm. It's probably the closest thing available to the Bren Ten...CZ75 design SA/DA...very solid and shootable. I bought this for a nice price through IRunGuns, and they have extra mags as well [I wish I had bought a few more]. I haven't shot the gun much but I'll soon be loading up some serious ammo for it...most OTS 10mm ammo is like shooting 40S&W. I've installed a HD recoil spring and steel guide rod, so the Witness should hold up pretty well. I'd like to get a Sig P220 10mm but the reverse two-tone SA/DA model I want is pretty rare and I have to sell a few things to feel good about the expenditure...

I've got a P40L in 40S&W amongst my Grand Power toys. The rotating barrel lockup really soaks up the recoil and makes it feel like a smooth 9mm. I'm getting a 10mm barrel and mags, which will drop right in so I can have some 10mm fun :)

Canuck223 took over as the Canadian distributor last year and has been great at bringing in the full product line as well as mags and spare parts. He's always been excellent at warranty and general support of the Grand Power products.

Can't speak to the p40 but I just received my k100 a few weeks back. Build quality is excellent and the rotating barrel action is silky smooth. Haven't shot it yet but looking forward to it.

I went ahead and ordered one yesterday, the distributor for grand power happened to be in the store so I was able to get all my questions answered

Now to figure out how to feed it without going broke!

what are you doing vanman

did a internet look up and the X caliber is neat,

might have to get a price in 9mm WOW

how does it compare with the glock for hand size as I have small hands,

how is the reset for single action length of pull

I use the X-Caliburs for IPSC and USPSA in the Production div. I may play in the Carry Optics div later on when my eyes start giving out lol.

The K22 X-Trim just makes for great cheap practice or when I can't pick up my brass.

I found the SA & DA trigger to be just great right out of the box. Much better than my stock CZ SP01 Shadow. After breaking in (~1000rounds) it's about the same as some CZ Shadows I've handled where they have gone to lighter main springs and polish/trigger jobs.

The SA reset is very quick, about the same as my Shadow.

What really sold me in the Grand Power is the way it fits my hands. I always found my shadow to be a little slippery with the thin aluminum checkered grips, or when my hands get a little sweaty with the stock rubber grips. The shape of the Grand Power grips is perfect for my hand and after I put some grip tape on it, it just locks right in. Couple that with the low recoil from the rotating barrel lockup, and I have barely any muzzle flip. Double taps and bill drills are fun :)

ps, I have a G17, G34 and G17L as well. They definitely feel bigger than my GP's and I'm only using the stock back strap. There is a smaller back strap included with the X-Calibur as well as two larger ones. These back straps fit all their .22 and 9mm models.

Red Hills tactical used to carry an Eliason mount adapter for red dots, not sure if they still do. I wouldn't mount one on the X-Calibur though as it's very highly tuned. Adding that much weight on to the slide may result in stovepipe type FTE's. I had a bull barrelled X-Calibur in addition to my fluted barreled X-Cal, and the extra barrel weight caused stovepipe FTE's when running my normal 132pf reloads. I had to up the PF to 140 to get it to eject reliably, so it's just a backup gun for me right now, and I'm changing it back to a fluted barrel.

The K100 with the red dot runs fine with my 132pf reloads so I'll use that for the Carry Optic div. That Trijicon RMR adapter was made by Amerigun USA for $125
