Alright,
I'm looking into something.
I currently have an M1A rear sight assy on my Norc M14.
Works awesome except that the aperture sight hole is of the larger diameter.
I am not adjusting to it at all. My groups have spread from very tight to average and I can not get used to the larger sight picture no matter how much I shoot :( From what I found the difference is one of 0.052 and the other 0.059 but man what a difference in sight picture!
The accuracy of the clicks is phenomenal but I want the small diameter hole.
I can't seem to find an actual M1A rear aperture with a small diameter hole (well, $20 in the states but no shippy to Canada...)
Has anyone ever attempted using M1A sight assy (dials knobs base etc) with a Norc aperture? I don't like the hooded NM sights either.
I'm thinking the only way I can get this set-up and keep the fuctional M1A dials and knob is to use a Norc aperture but would they work together as in the notches being compatible size etc?
Any direction or guidance/info on this would be appreciated.

I had a mini-14 years ago with the same problem. Being the cheap f__k that I am I improvised. I fund an aluminum pop rivet of the holes diameter and riveted it in place then drilled it out to a much smaller size than I had originaly then treated it with aluma black. It worked amazingly well for such a cheap and simple fix.

The norinco rear sight is interchangeable with the US and Beretta made M1 Garand and M14 assemblies. Do you have the pieces to try it for fit?

No I took some bad advice from someone off here and tossed it after I switched! I smacked myself pretty good today when I decided to try it lol :(
If anyone has a spare they don't want I'll gladly pay for shipping and a few bucks for it.
Just to be sure, you're saying just the aperture from a Norinco will interchange with other M14 sight base assemblies?
I know the whole rear sight assy is interchangeable (I have an M1A on my Norc and it works great) but I just want the aperture switched for one with the original style small hole.

I am also the king of cheap :D
Hungry suggested getting an old Norc one, JB welding it solid and drilling a new small hole dead center.
Then touch up with black paint etc.
If I can't find a somewhat centered Norc one for cheap this will be the next solution.

I'd like to get a try at welding up the hole, grinding it flat and redrilling it finer. Another idea is to drill and tap it to fit Williams peep site apertures, then you can remove it and have it large, or install the williams aperture of your choice.

I bought a NM aperture from a place in the States, and it fit perfectly into a Beretta Garand sight mechanism. The old aperture from the Beretta Garand, which was pretty decent looking, fit perfectly into the old norinco mechanism. I must have got lucky, because the first Norinco M14S I ever bought, has a perfectly usable site mechanism and good solid clicks after proper adjustment.

lol I got mine third hand brand new for $300 a ways back.
I was not one of the lucky winners of the "good Norc sights" lottery :(
I did find out that yes the Norc aperture will fit an M1A assembly though.
I tossed mine unfortunately, so now I have to find another one.
My friend just got a shorty M14 that shoots 3-4 inch groups @ 100m right out of the box with perfect irons.....bastard lol
The original sights windage and elevation knobs would tighen as I turned them until you couldn't move them anymore lol
Or the elevation would raise the aperture but would not lower it etc etc
Good times with Norinco eh :D
