I have a factory shorty Norc that recently had the flash hider changed with a USGI unit to fix the crooked front sight base. Unfortunately, now I'm unable to adjust the sights enough for it to shoot to point of aim. It is almost 12" high @ 100 yards. I'm looking for options to correct this new issue, a taller front sight seems to be the easiest solution but I'm unable to locate anything. Any help remedying my situation would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, strange. This could be an elevation problem with your rear sight. I swapped both my front and rear sights on my former Norinco and it was good-to-go. There was a noticeable difference in the quality/function between the Chinese and USGI rear sights, well worth the extra cost.

Springfield Bush & Scout M1As come with a taller front sight.

The MK14 series uses a GLFS base that elevates the standard height front sight.

All of the rifles mentioned above have an 18.0" barrel... some had 18.5" barrels

There is a method to trim down the rear iron sight aperture that may get you lower than you are...

M14.CA is correct, I have performed this mod and it works great. As long as you can disassemble and reassemble your Norc sights.
It also works with USGI sights if necessary.

you can order the front sight blade for the SAI SOCOM directly from SAI (Springfield Armory). Because the SOCOM has a shorter barrel, the front sight will be taller than on the standard 22" barrel.

I would not recommend the SOCOM blade, stick with the Bush/Scout front sight.

The rear sight mod Frank detailed is nice, and I'm sure it will work well with the taller front sight.

I stand corrected. I was thinking of the 18" Scout and typed SOCOM instead. Stupid brain hand disconnect thing.

Here is the formula to change the height of the front sight blade on an M14 rifle shooting 12" high at 100 yards with a 18.5" sight radius:

Change = 12 inches X 18.5 inches = or .061 inches higher
----------------
3600 inches

The calculation explained:

1.Shoot a group (at least three shots) with the current front sight. This can be done from any known distance. Convert the range to inches. (i.e. 100 yards is 36X100 or 3600 inches)

2.Measure the distance the center of the group is from the desired point of impact in inches.

3.Measure the distance from the front sight to the rear sight in inches. (Tthe sight radius).

4.The change in height needed is calculated by multiplying the desired change from step 2 by the sight radius in step 3 and dividing by the range (in inches) that the group was fired at from step 1.

I hope that helps.

MY JRA shoots 6" high with the rear sight bottomed out. I looked into this recently And found that from the base of the sight to the top of the post at the rear the standard dimension is 0.580" with a 22" barrel. The point of impact will be altered 1" for every 0.008" of height. The GI sight on my rifle measures 0.530". 0.05" divided by .008" is 6.25". This should put those rounds on target with sight bottomed. The top of the protective ears would not in my opinion make a good data line for the measurement.

To answer your initial question 8 clicks up is supposed to be zero for 200 meters.
