Dear CGNers,
I am interested in buying a 1911A1 style pistol. But, I like it to be brand new and budget-priced. It seems that Tanfoglio 45ACP from Freedom Ventures is reasonably priced for me ($589.00 before tax and shipment). Does anyone own or have any experince with them? I like to know how accurate they are? Are their parts are exchangeable with the other clones? And basically, the overall cons and pros. During my internet research, I found out that Armscor in philippines seems to have some sort of affiliation with Tanfoglio; and besides, their products seems to be very similar in appearance. Does this mean that they are manfactured in philippines for Tanfoglio by Armscor (Some of Armscor 1911A1 products are branded Charles Daly in US). By the way, how is the quality of Armscor? I am looking forward to your feedbacks.
 
This is straight up & not meant to be condescending or sarcastic... But why not PM the dealer/seller about the pistol? It's new on the market & I doubt there'd be many CGN'ers that would have one yet.

I'd like to get one to see what they're all about... I know the other offerings from Tanfoglio have been good pistols. I'd bet they did a nice job with the 1911A1, too. ;)

All the main parts are indeed manufactured by Armscor in the Philippines. Whether the final assembly takes place in Italy or the Philippines is unclear. Both, the frame and the slide are cast. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for and some corners have to be cut in order to achieve a low price.

P.S. You may want to do some research on Rock Island. That is the new brand under which Armscor sells its pistols in the U.S. The reviews that I've read on American message boards have been mostly positive. But then again, Rock Islands sell for much less than $589 south of the border (they seem to retail for about $300), which means that their natural competition is guns like Norinco and ATM. Compared to those two, pretty much anything is a good gun.

Personally, I'd take a Norinco 1911 before a Tanfoglio/Armscor 1911. Having said that, I've NEVER held or even seen the latter in person. However, the Norinco that I own, first handgun I ever owned, is still in my collection, and always will be. It is solid, cycles VERY reliably almost anything I throw at it, and is actually very accurate. believe it or not, I pull off better groups with my fixed site norc then any other 1911 variation I've ever fired. Of course, this could be attributed to the fact that I've fired it alot, and the others not so much. I now have a new/used kimber....much nicer fit and finish, but my trigger in the norc (aftermarket Kings match) kills the Kimber trigger. They are both keepers...I just intend to get better with the Kimber now!

In Italy, they mark, harden and surface finish the components before performing final assembly. Same assembly line as the rest of Tanfoglio.

Components are made by suppliers in the Philippines, Czech Republic, Israel, Korea, India and Italy. Which ones are made where is not public knowledge and Tanfoglio cannot report that due to supplier agreements.

If you want to handle the gun - Armco, Battle River Sports and Elwood Epps are some of the dealers who have stocked them so far.

They pale next to my STIs but they are also less than half the price. I have test fired one. 3" group at 15 yds (only range I had) with plated bullets. ~8lb trigger.

Sounds like the Tan 1911 is made like more than one 1911..from parts all over the world. For what you get the Witness 1911 looks like a good buy. THe Norincos come with all forged parts and the frame and slide are exceptional. With better sights they make one heck of a gun notwithstanding capp325 obvious dislike for the pistols. Then again he had the Witness being made in the Phillipnes so go figure.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I never said that I had a Witness.

What does that have to do we me owning a Witness, which is what Canuck44 is apparently suggesting (though his writing style is admittedly difficult to understand at times)?
 
English may be a problem for you but if you can find any suggestion that I made that you owned a witness please post it otherwise close it.

How else do you interpret "he had the witness being made in the "Phillipnes"? Perhaps if you started using standard English grammar, such misunderstandings could be avoided.

If you carefully and slowly read the sentence I posted and you quoted you will note the word "being". It comes just before the word "made". Without the word being there then indeed the sentence would have you making the Witness in the Phillipines.

A grammatically correct way of phrasing that would be "He thought that the Witness was made in the Philippines". And by the way, that's not what I suggested. I said that all the main components were made in the Philippines, which is true.
