For the longest while I've wanted to add a Tanfoglio to my collection. Got me a new job and a nice tax refund and Freedom Ventures got the 207/2018 Limited Custom models in stock. It's like the stars aligned so I jumped on one.

Well, Mr. Postman dropped off my Limited Custom this past Thursday. Woohoo. She is a beauty, no doubt about that!

Out of the box and for the amount of money paid, operating it was a bit disappointing. The trigger was gritty as heck and even working the slide was gritty like the pistol had sand in it. My Shadow 2 was much better out of the box. I soon found out on another forum that Tanfoglios aren't known for having nice triggers out of the box. Damn it!

I could not believe how much milling chatter that were on the parts and burrs on some milled out areas. Heck the upgraded ambi-safety is all cast mim part and looked a bit crooked. The front of the safety was rubbing on the frame and stiff to operate. After 5hrs of polishing, deburring and stoning of parts, it's night and day difference compared to how it was originally. I swapped out the hammer and firing pin springs to the Xtreme Light versions and upgraded to the extended Xtreme firing pin. The trigger is nice an smooth now and trigger break is nice and crisp but my Shadow 2 trigger still breaks a bit crisper. I went from an almost 5lb trigger down to just around 2.5lbs. I still have a little more tweaking to do on her.

I didn't stone the hammer because I was thinking of getting the Xtreme Titan. I'll run some CCI primers through her to confirm reliability before getting the Titan hammer. I ordered an Xtreme sear and semi-flat pro trigger and should get that next week.

I am super stoked to shoot her this season!

Here's my Ltd Custom when I first got her... I was going to go with a silver on black look hence the silver ambi safety.

And here she is nekkid an hour later.... :)

I want one too but I have Match I replaced my trigger with henning and all extreme parts love the gun. Its my gun to go.

Nice choice!

I'm on my second Tanfoglio. First was a Stock 3 Extreme to use for IPSC Production. Second is a Gold Custom Eric that I just got to use for Open. Both are great and perform well, once I got the bugs worked out.

The S3X had a problem ejecting brass, turns out it was only blazer brass and that the chamber needed a slight polishing to work right. Now runs flawlessly.

The GCE had an issue with getting stuck open as if the last round hold open had kicked in even before the mag was empty. Turned out the extreme base pads (the huge ones used for Open) were a little too big for the magwell and would sometimes get stuck, which wold hold the slide open. A little filing/sanding on the inside of the magwell fixed that and it runs smooth like butter. I had it built with a bunch of the xtreme internals including trigger etc and a trigger job. It shoots really nicely.

It seeems like a bit of a pia to have to do any of these things to what is by all standards a fairly expensive gun, but in the long run, they both perform really well and the little bit of effort to get them running well is OK by me.

Enjoy!

Thanks. I figured they'd have enhanced the Limited Custom line since it's almost $1K over a Stock II/III. Yeah, not so much. Well, it turned into a project gun for me. Those little raised nobs on the rear of the slide, while kinda kool, isn't on your fingers. Regular serrations would have been more comfortable to handle.

While I love this Tanfoglio, I think a CZ TS Orange (if you can find one!) would be a better buy for the same $$.

TS is nice. Very good trigger but the mags suck ass.

Got some of my parts today from Freedom Ventures.

Had to polish/stone that Xtreme sear too! Go figure it's an upgraded part to begin with. In the end, the trigger breaks like an icicle now, just like my Shadow 2. The stock sear was nice and crisp after I stoned and polished it but it broke more like a fresh carrot than an icicle.

Not to mention, the blotch from the MIM injected point.

Polished up the sear cage and installed the new sear.

Over the weekend, I did some more work on this puppy.

Chucked up the recoil guide rod in the press and removed the milling chatter and polished her almost to a mirror.

Polished up the trigger spring/plunger a bit more.

Polished up the extended mag release. From the chamber for the spring and detent to the exterior.

Polished up the trigger bar and changed out the stock trigger to an Xtreme Pro semi-flat.

All back together again. Trigger break is a very crisp, hair over 2lbs.

Man that thing is sweet. Shame they need so much work right away, but it seems like you’re more than capable.

Keep us updated with the range report

Thanks. Waiting for my stink'n reg papers. Arghhh...
Yeah, I was quite surprised that a pistol costing THAT much $$ would have such a gritty trigger.

Anyone here upgraded to the Titan trigger from a Delta? I popped off 3 primers to see if I was going to have light primer strikes but got 100% ignition but I guess I'll find out when I take it to the range and shoot off a few hundred.

Hey Tanfoglio SAO owners, do you find the trigger reset is a little long? My Shadow 2 reset is nice and short and makes the Tanfoglio feel long. I find I'm short stroking my Tanfoglio Limited Custom after having shot my Shadow 2 quite a bit. Anyone installed a Xtreme or Patriot Defense BOLO to reduce the reset?

I have the henning trigger in my Tanfo and before that the flat Extreme, both do have a longer reset conpared to a lot of my other pistols, when I sit there and play with it is the only time I notice, never caught me off guard in a match yet or anything. But if it's catching you then you may want to look into it, I'll google a BOLO tomorrow.

I did a bit of Googling and searching through a few forums but couldn't find anything solid on a SAO setup using a BOLO/Disco. If you find anything, I'd love to find out. I may order a Patriot Defense one to play around with.

As to you earlier post as well, I was running a light hammer spring with a SAO delta hammer, obviously ended up with light strikes on anthything but federal primers, swapped to a TITAN hammer, extreme firing pin and new firing pin block, it was supposed to fix primer issues, it helped for sure but I would still get an occasional light strike on a CCI primer, sometimes I could go 50 or more rounds without one, but still don't want stoppages in a match, so at the moment I have a heavier hammer spring in which makes the trigger pull weight notorious, will just go back to loading fully with federal primers.
I did get pretty good at thumbing the hammer back when a round wouldn't go off, must be all my revolver shooting coming in handy.

I ran a few mags through a CZ TSO a few weeks back, and short stroked the reset almost the whole time, was super noticeable compared to my S2 as well.

I have an Xtreme LC. Ran great with the Henning xtended FP and spring and stock hammer spring. Started getting a few lite strikes on CCI primers.
Now running ... PD reduced power trigger spring
... PD xtended FP and PD FP spring
... Graufell Xtreme Medium hammer spring
... new Tanfo recoil spring for .40sw
... New Xtreme magwell

Gun seems to run fine now with no lite strikes so far. Trigger pull was 1lb- 4ozs before and with new parts it is now 1lb-9oz.
I have a Henning short flat trigger which I may go to next year. Also have PD reduced power sear spring but not installed

Sounds like the BOLO requires a lot of fitting, more than even a confident "home gunsmith" is comfortable with,
After all my new parts still having trigger reset issues with the Henning SAO trigger, going to start fiddling with the sear legs I think
