Any one out there have a Tanfoglio Limited 40 sw for IPSC, and what are the pro's and cons and are they comparable to the STI 's. I think there a nice lookin rig.

You can not compare the Tanfo LC against STI. This may sound like I am exagerating, but you are like comparing a Ford Mustang against Porshce.;)

I own both handgun Tanfo LC & STI Edge. IMHO, STI Edge is one of the best Standard race gun you can buy for IPSC, of course there is the SV as well and other high-end custom Standard race gun.

I would say Para Ltd is about the same level as Tanfo LC although I consider the Tanfoglio has the best bang for your money. If asked between Para Ltd & Tanfoglio LC, I will choose the Tanfo LC without hesitation. You may ask why? Because I own a Para as well.

YOu can get a Tanfo LC package around 2-Gs, this includes 6-mags, two sights (FO & Steel), 2-extra recoil spring, cleaning kir and a fancy Tanfo gun case. For $2000.00 you are set for IPSC.

Stock blue STI Edge will cost you $2200.00, which comes with 1-mag. Extra mags are around $90-100 bucks (remember you need at least 5-mags);)

If you have the "moolah", I'd buy the STI. If you are a little bit tight on the budget, Tanfoglio LC is the way to go.

Good luck? :)

I got a LC last summer. I love it. Right out of the box it worked. A few adjustments to the mags. It is the best bang for the buck. I find it shoots fast, in most cases as fast as my open gun. My shooting has improved with it and I have been in the game for 16 years.

I second Chuck.... One thing I love about the Tanfo LC is the short and quick trigger reset. :)

Sorry nognog, I can't agree. The LC is far and away a better mousetrap than the Para. I know; I've owned several Paras and worked extensively on them as well as others. They aren't in the same league...not even close. And for me the combination of superior ergonomics, and low on-going shooting costs in the Tanfo's are a huge selling point.

FWIW: I sold off my STI's and bought the Tanfo and I am not sorry I did. I've got about 20K rounds through it now and so far it's running like a Swiss watch. I LOVE shooting it, and I can do so for half the price of what it costs to feed any 19/2011 pattern gun with a button rifled barrel. While it's true that they are not built to the same level of tolerance as the S*TI guns, they are a more modern design and quite frankly, don't need to be. They give up nothing in accuracy, speed or reliability. They are plenty strong, and I w-a-a-a-a-y prefer the pivoting trigger to the 1911 straight-pull design in large measure because of the very positive, super fast reset. Always have.

For all those people who have opinions on Tanfoglios and say a plastic STI is superior: No one has won an overall world IPSC championship with anything other than a steel pistol. Doug Koenig in Australia 1990 with a 1911, Matt Mclearn in 1993 with a Caspian, Todd Jarrett in 1996 with a Para, and the last 3 Championships (1999, 2002, 2005) was Eric with a Tanfoglio.
With maybe one exception even the Standard World Championship was won only with steel pistols. (Robbie with his Springfield)
The Tanfoglio is on par with modular 1911 pistols like STI, far superior to a Para, and far more reliable, ergonomic, and accurate with their hammer forged polygonal barrels than either. I would expect nothing less from a modern 1970's design. The 1911 was first penned in 1898.
Did I mention they are priced better?

With a lot of the top guys using SXI stuff, I wouldnt have thought the above was true without you naming some of the past winners. Hmmm.

In firearms as with many things you usually get what you pay for.

If you can afford the latest from SV - ST then get it, or pay a little less and get the Tangfoglio.

They will all most likely work OK out of the box,

all of them need tuning to make them work well.

I suspect the last six winners at the IPSC worlds could have one with paint guns. It is the shooter not the arrow folks. If I could shoot half as good as my Tan Model "L" is capable of I would be a happy camper. With me behind the trigger my STI Trpjan in 9MM is faster than the Tan in IDPA ESP. In IPSC Production though the Tan rules with one extra round and faster reloads due to the wide body mag.

Take Care

Bob

How's the plastic SVI treating you.:D

Does anyone know of any place that has them in stock? I talked to the Freedom Ventures guys but they are about three weeks out.

Actually, it's mostly about preference. Different guns suit different tastes, so we do our research and pick what we think will give us the best bang for our buck. If someone gave Eric G. an STI to play with he'd be winning with that too. They are awesome guns and certainly aren't ever going to hold anyone back. But of course, against us mortals he'd probably prevail using just a slingshot. Accordingly I have become convinced that he is in fact, an android. I have notified the IPSC World Body of this and am awaiting a reply. So far, two years and nothing. Hmmmmm.........

Now, a more important issue than gun design; will someone out there PLEASE develop a cardboard and steel seeking bullet? I really, really need it.

Thank you.

I have, but it had a problem of bouncing off the card board rather then penetrating. It caused quite a stir over at the IPSC global village, and they would not score it as a hit.. Damn.. My next invention is the magic bullet that actually changes colors when it goes through hard cover, so that you don't loose those precious A's for a D that went through hard cover...

So then...a robot would have to be a production competitor, toss in a few options and you have a standard. Cyborgs and androids in Open? Using the new classification system, is it possible for an open cyborg using a production gun to become unclassified in Ontario when shooting a match with less than I GM robot using an open gun?

oh jeez...thanks Rob!

Actually, if you shoot in the Super Senior category, you should be able to get classified as a cyborg, since most of those guys have artificial hips and knees and pacemakers and......

Somebody stop this!
