I am looking for a 45ACP and am leaning towards either a Tanfoglio Witness or a CZ 97B unless of course I stumble upon a bargain in EE.

I know of the reputaion of the CZ line. I have only read a couple of threads on the Tanfoglio's as it appears there are not too many owners on CGN.

Would appreciate those who have first hand knowledge to pipe in here so that I can make an informed decision.

Thanks. :D

I am no salesman, or mean to sway you one way or another, but I like both manufacturers. I have handled and shot a CZ97. With hardball ammo (pretty hot stuff) it handled nicer than I thought. Recovery time was good, and was easy to handle shot to shot. Quality and finish of the CZ is excellent. Tanfoglio is awesome. My first impressions with the new guns was a while back when I shot Henning Wallgren's guns. I myself shoot older stuff, but the guns in design remain pretty much the same. What I would consider is cost, availability, replacement parts & accessories, and a supplier with a good rep. Happily we have Freedom Ventures as a Tanfo distributor, I am unsure of who the best CZ supplier is here. Both are good guns, I suggest try them both out if you can and decide from there.

Can't speak for the CZ's as I don't have one.. but I love my tanfo.. I find the fit and finish better then compared to the CZ's. The full metal Mags are better as well.

I have never shot a CZ and Tan Witness, but I am a PROUD owner of a Tanfoglio LC. I am loving and enjoying it.

CZ! The fit and finish on mine is excellent. Accuracy is awesome too. The only thing I don't like about the CZ & Tanfoglio is the single action trigger pull. The Wolf spring kit did help a little, but I've been spoiled by the light trigger pull of my 1911s.45ACP.

I think one of the best .45s going is the Sig 220.

I can't afford a Sig, nor a Colt Gold Cup.

Just spoke to Gunnar, which helped to confuse the issue a bit. There is also the Israel Arms 45 Commander with the Armco "Prep Job" for just under $600.

So now its either the Tanfoglio for $590 out of the box, or a Gunnar tuned Israel Arms/Norc/Colt clone for $595. If Gunnar didn't have such a golden reputation around here it would be a no-brainer.

If the Israel Arms 45 is legal for CCW in the States, then I will probably opt for that route. From what I've learned here on CGN, Armco don't sell crap. :p

My wife will probably shoot me when she sees another gun :50cal: come in here anyways. :slap: I am a sick individual... all this started when the Liberals threatened to take away our guns.:bangHead:

Not sure which models you looked at , but the CZ IPSC Standard, and the Tan LC come with an adjustable 2.5 lbs trigger right out of the box. The resets are not bad either.

The IPSC models are single action and have a nice triggers. The CZ .45ACP model is a double action, same as the CZ 75 & 85. I want the IPSC model next!

I had a Shadow, and now own a Tan stock2. Both nice guns. More options for the CZ via springs and such (but not for long, as Tanfoglio is working on different trigger kits). If you keep the mags clean, they work great. The Tanfoglio feeds very well. Some minor detailing smooths things out, like any gun. Get the rubber pads for the tan, as it helps protect the mags when they are dropped during mag changes. I think the grip of the Tan is better. Less reach for me in DA than the CZ.

I don't get it

Can you bring your gun in the US ? Don't worry about Gunnar at Armco, He's a great guy to deal with...

I own and shoot both CZs and Tanfoglios. I truly like them both but if I were in the market for a 45acp it would be a CZ. Which one? Easy, a Dan Wesson (DW) 1911 made by CZ. The photo is of my Dan Wesson 10mm and yes, I am waiting to pick up DW Bobtail. Regards, Richard:D

I just bought Tanfoglio Witness Custom from Freedom Ventures. Tanfoglio Witnes while being cheaper than Witness Custom does not have adjustable rear sight. Do not know anything about CZ. I am not big time pistol shooter and only put ~100 rounds through mine but I like how tanfoglio fit my hand. I wish I bought something more competitive cuz now I want magazine well ( whatever correct name is) and muzzle compensator.
