OK got my new toy today (THANKS SEAN!). took it out to the range and put 410 rounds through it. Functioned flawlessly, except for my wonderful high/mangled primers (piece of #### Dillon 1050). I put the fibre optic sight on it before I went, damn the stock front sight took a beating to take off, and yes I loosened (removed) the set screw. I used a brass punch and still managed to deform the facing edge of the stock sight. oh well, don't need it anyhow, love the FO.
Accuracy was excellent out of the box, having an adjustable rear sight is nice. I had to add a few clicks up and left (hmmm where have I heard that before?). but once it was dialed in I was 10 for 10 on B zone plates at 50 (slow fire). my groups at 25 were decent, maybe 3 inches freestyle. at 10 it was one ragged hole, all were medium speed shots.
Mags eject like lightning, but all are only barely 10 rounds. gonna see what I can do to fix that. As well I think I am going to find someone to spot weld the laser cut seams in a few more places, as I hear that's the weak spot. One more thing in relation to mags. with an empty gun, slide locked back, a simple firm tap on the bottom of the magwell caused the slide to go forward (I like that), however, with a loaded mag and a smart/firm insertion, the slide wouldn't go forward (don't like that). I would think once I've put a few thousand rounds through this gun and used the slide catch a bunch, that'll fix itself, but it is curious. I tried putting the mag in, and then smacking it harder, still no joy. Not sure why. Gonna look to see if the mags are touching the slide catch at all. if so, a little polishing will be in order.
Single action trigger is very nice, but DA sucks bones. I can see where there are some spots that can be polished, like the plunger area that pushed the trigger bar up and such. obviously since it's a PD gun it won't get any non factory bits, as much as Henning would like me to use them (I think in USPSA you can do swap out internals and such).
I also don't love the trigger itself, too much of a curve to it, I already have a blister forming from it, and it's an uncomfortable piece of metal for my finger. But it only bothers me in DA, once in SA it's fine. I understand that new triggers similar to the CZ are going to be available soon, giving us some options.
Wish it had a decocker, but I can live with doing manually, though it sucks when doing draw fire drills, not as quick as having a decocker. as well I learned my grip with my weak (left) hand really is too high (used to prevent the slide lock from working on my Beretta all the time). if I don't make a point of keeping pressure on the safety it will creep up and suddenly be on. so really, it's a good thing to get this gun and be working with it, as it'll make me fix that grip. I wonder if the larger safety from the Open gun will be allowed on the Stock II as I would like a bigger shelf to put my thumb on. If not it's not a big deal, but I do have fat ass fingers and thumbs.
All in all I have to say I love this gun. I'll be doing a lot more with it this weekend, so I'll be able to see how it performs for drills and stuff. My holster (Guga) probably won't make it here till Monday, but I think I have a CR I can borrow for the time being. It was a toss up between a Ghost and a Guga, but after playing with 757's Guga holster and his Edge, I knew I had to have one too.
Oh and I love the wood grips, even if they aren't the best looking, they are ####ing grippy, as is the checkering on the front of the grip. this gun ain't moving in your hand that's for sure.

WEll, a simple fix to lower the DA would be for Tanfoglio to contract Wollf to make hammer springs and offer it on there website for all tanfoglio's with short hammer springs. Same as CZ would have likely done.
The follower just touches the bottom of the slide release when empty. I just ordered a Ghost from Josko. I like the CR, as it is well made and has quality parts, but I have been using the minimalist holsters for a while and prefer them.

The grips are very "grippy", No need for grip tape.

I had a nasty habit of pressing the mag release (i switched it to right side), right in 2 field stages more than twice for each stage.:redface:

User error, got to watch my left hand trigger finger, it rode up to high and pressed it during recoil

that's why I sent the Vertec Elite 1A back. used to hit the mag release with my strong hand middle finger due to the straight back strap.

I have the "L" model with over 5,000 rds through it now both in 9MM and .40S&W (J have the conversion kit). I shoot the 1911 in IDPA ESP and have not had the problem Rob has had with the safety. The D/A trigger is a monster to pull but the S/A, like Rob says is sweet. I wish I could say the D/A pull has improved but it hasn't.

Rob have you considered letting Dlask work on the trigger parts? If I decide to shoot SSP with my gun in IDPA the springs are going to be changed.

Take Care

Bob

nothing I own will ever go back to the island to be worked on, ever.
I'll be polishing the guys myself this week. it's pretty easy to do.
I am now at 1054 rounds through the gun, it's running great, DA is still a #####, but it's smoothed out some already. Still hate the curve of the trigger, but I guess I am getting used to that too.
was shooting 3 inch aluminum plates with it yesterday, on the outside range, at 50m. 5 for 5 and then a couple hits around the others, then back to 1 shot 1 plate for the remaining 3. Wish I could group it like that at 50m!

polished up the trigger plunger and the sear and hammer, didn't do much really, just a quick clean. the plunger was rough as hell, now it's a mirror.
put another 400 rounds through it Friday night in about 2.5 hours. had a total of 3 failures. 1st one was a trigger issue. Put a new mag in, and went to decock, hammer was easy to let down, but trigger wouldn't reset to DA, something, a piece of crap obviously, was jamming it.pulled mag out, racked out live round, gave the gun a smack, and all was fine, stripped it down, couldn't find the crap, so no idea beyond that. next 2 failures happened about 200 rounds apart, and both were the same thing, click, no bang, no nothing. pull round, no mark on primer. retry round, bang on first click. Probably time to clean the firing pin chanel again.
love this gun so far. got my new holster for it (thanks Frank!), and love that. gonna put another few hundred through it this weekend, and then start getting ready for the Kelowna qualifiers, if I can get the time off.

Once, this happened at the NS provincials. But I did have a light hammer strike on the primer, which was odd, as the hammer spring is stock and hits hard enough to make a pencil fly out of the barrel. The only thing I can think of is my thumb rode the slide forward, and perhaps the slide was 99.99% closed.......? Cleaned the Breach-face and made sure the rounds were entering ok. Might have been a miss-shaped casing, but had no problems extracting. Using my HK I had 2 FTE, which is VERY odd. HK is getting old, the extractor spring is due for a changing.

Stock2,- the sear and sear housing. If you take it apart, you may notice that the sear spring pushes the sear to one side of the sear housing, in SA you probably won't notice anything, but may notice it in DA.

Got my Ghost from Josko, thanks dude. Very quick shipping.
