I set up my Stock2 so I can use my trigger finger to press the mag release (on right side, as i am right handed). I did this for a few reasons; I started pistol shooting with an HK USP, and always use my trigger finger to press the mag release= little learning curve to go to another gun. I actually use a Mitchell right sided mag release on my STI Edge, so I also use my trigger finger to press the mag release, no problems. Not accidentally hitting the mag release, but think I did it maybe once in NS, but that is it.

My problem is this; with my STOCK-2, I keep on hitting the mag release with my weak hand, and dumping mags all over the place in matches.,...So I was thinking I should just join the rest of the world and place my mag release on the Tanfoglio back on the left side, and learn to use my thumb! I Have a slightly more difficult time reaching over with my thumb without adjusting my grip, and I was thinking that if I switched out the wood grips, and went to aluminum, I could press the mag release with less effort, and have better leverage. The only thing I am concerned with, is if I may run into problems hitting the mag release accidentally with the fleshy part of my thumb if that area is flatter due to the thinner aluminum grips.
Has anyone run into any problems of pressing the mag release with the Tanfoglio's? This is a user problem, as I think the gun is great for recoil, and very accurate. I hate to give up on it as I enjoy using it, but my budget is at my limit, and I hate to spend more money on grips if it is not going to help. I might just go back to my HK or the new Hk P30L, if I can not come to a solution.
thanks,

Switch it back the to the left side?? Hell no.. ;) ;) ;)

Like you.. I have the mag release on the right side (and I'm right handed..) with the thumbrest on the LC, I never have to move my right hand, away from the shooting grip. I just squeeze my middle finger (on the right) and the mag drops out..

if you are having problems with mags dropping out (you mentioned your week hand was causing it).. I would look at two things to adjust

1) stretch the spring for the mag release and give it a bit more outward pressure
2) adjust the mags (take a screw driver and bend the upper edge of the "hole" that secures the mag, out just a tiny bit. (it's easy to put back with a light tap with a hammer)..

one thing I have noticed with the reverseable releases.. if you go from left (normal) to right, you need to adjust all the mags. you can't just switch back and forth, as the tollerences for the how far the mag release sticks out, changes from left to right side. Just pry out the top lip of the holes, and it will fix your problem..

you can see what needs to be done from my web site. ;)

The alum grips are quite a bit thinner and do effect the position of your hands.

I switched it over to left side, and noticed they drop out very easily. I hate to pry at it, as it seems that a couple of mags i have seem to be chipping or have slight cracks in that area. It almost seems impossible to accidentally hit the release with the fleshy part of the thumb ( I tried, squeezed the hell with a death grip, no drop by accident). I could make do with the wood, but I wonder if the thinner aluminum grips would help by giving my more leverage, or hurt by placing my thumb meat closer to the mag release?

Oh -DUH! I removed my wood grip from the left side, and with a mag inserted, tried to make the mag release go in enough. good news is that I couldn't apply enough pressure, as the contact I did have was at the fleshy web part of the thumb. Mag changes will take some getting used to using my thumb, and also to make sure my finger is out of the trigger guard, although with out thinking about that, my finger was out of the trigger guard when I checked. Hope it doesn't screw me up too much.......Bad news is that I will have to spend $ to get some aluminum grips, and might have to change me Edge grips so I can reach the mag button on the left side.

dude you got like spider long fingers or something? I can't envision how you are hitting the mag release with your weak hand. or what part of your thumb your worried with the release on the left side like it's supposed to be.
I had my first ND tonight with my Stock II though. decocking it before a string at S&D night (it's bad when the instructor ND's people!!!!!!!!!!!) hammer slipped right through my thumb and finger when I pulled the trigger. the round hit the backstop, and I felt like a goof.

Oh oH, I actually had one of those at the range. I was decocking the same way, after I had pressed the trigger  ANyhow, the slide hit my thumb. I was lucky, and learned my lesson.

My weak hand trigger finger is pressing right up on top of my strong hand middle finger, and during recoil it sometimes slips and presses the mag release which is in between my trigger finger and middle finger.
