Tanfoglio ?

The guns Sean brings in are the models up from EAA Witness. The Combat Sport maybe the same as the EAA Witness and the price diferential is not that great.

EAA witness arem ade by Tanfoglio. If you go to the Tanfoglio site the various guns are there. The Witness line is under defensive pistols while the Combat Sport and higher level guns are in the Sports & Competition Section if memory serves me correct.

Sean has explained the differences in his post. The Ynaks do not get the Model "L" because EAA Witness won't bring it in.

this is like talking about the price of VWs: some people quote the price of a golf, some talk about the price of a 4WD Passat.

tanfoglio makes lots and lots of different makes and models, different prices, different intended uses, different target audience.

I used my L to win the Ont and the Quebec provincials this year, and came in 5th at the Nationals - clearly there can be nothing wrong with it. I'm looking to sell it only because the SP01 happens to fit my hands just a tiny bit better and I can get a decocker model for some of my students to use, who don't like to manually decock (see EE, http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118358)

From a handing and recoil characteristics point of view, this gun is far better than any CZ 75B/85 I've tried.

Actually, the difference is about 50%...

Check out the models EAA Witness offers and compare them to the base Combat Sport. Different models I believe. Add to that differences in import duties, quantity purchases and you will eat up most of that 50%. Kind of a moot point really as Sean isn't going to sell the guns for less than it costs him to bring them in and the money you save by importing a new EAA Witness gets consumed pretty quickly in duties and fees.

If you are hung up on the suggested retail vs what retailers in the US discount our argument is with Canadian retailers.

Actually, the 50% price difference is between guns that are being sold on the Canadian market. The Combat Sport is the exact same gun as the EAA Witness, with the exception of adjustable sights, which the Witness lacks. The Combat sport sells for $799 while the Witness is $539.

If you are going to compare the price of the Combat Sport with what the Witness sells for in the U.S., the difference will be more like 150%.

I understand that EAA gets higher volume discounts than Freedom Ventures, but from the consumer's standpoint, why not get a gray market gun brought in from the U.S. if the price is that much lower?

Well for starters it would cost $200 minimum to get Questar involved with the importation and your price differential just disappeared. Saying the guns are identical but have different sights is like saying chev and ford are the same car but one has Ford on it. Tanfoglio sells a lower end pistol identically shaped like the Combat Sport that is the Witness, it is called the Combat Standard. Both have fixed sights. Ask Sean what he can bring that gun in for.

Maybe I did not make this clear enough...$539 is what the Witness sells for in Canada (at TSE). With GST, that's a $275 difference. For that money, you can buy three sets of adjustable sights.

Just got off the phone with TSE. First they don't carry EAA Witness. Second they have one in stock for $899 that comes with a .22LR conversion kit. Gun came in with one of their shipments. They don't normally carry EAA Witness. Probably because EAA is not the importer for Tanfoglio products in Canada. As a matter of interest according to Tanfoglio website their 1911 is not available for sale in the U.S. Incidently, assuming you don't care for the warranty aspect the $899 is a good buy I think. I have the Model "L" and have ordered a .40cal conversion unit for it otherwise I would be all over the Witness.

And here I was going to get such a deal on a EAA Witness.

I was under the impression that the minute Tanfoglio had a distributor in canada (Freedom Ventures) that EAA no longer sold models in Canada. And that is why TSE has been sold out of EAA for quite a while now.

Am I wrong in this?

Well, TSE still has a picture of the Witness on their website (along with "$539" next to it), so I was under the impression that they were waiting for a new shipment. Perhaps I was mistaken.

Here is there website. I don't see EAA Witness listed nor the $539. and that you say is there. Nor is it what the lady at the counter told me not a half hour so ago.

If you have another website listing the price from TSE please post the link.

Did you read my previous post?

If you think you can get an EAA Witness for $539 at TSE then I suggest you do so and post pictures when you get it. If not then I fail to see why you are attacking the importer of Tanfoglio firearms into Canada. From my investigations you aren't about to acquire one from TSE for that price anytime soon.

Website has not been updated. Guns are sold out and TSE is not carrying the guns anymore - confirmed with TSE today. As stated in another thread the EAA Witness is the base model of the Tanfoglio line and not the Combat Sport. I heard Freedom Ventures is going to or has brought in some of the base models and I suspect they will sell for less than the Combat Sport.

Capp325 goes on about this ad nausium without checking with TSE.

Right and wrong. They didn't really carry the line. They arrived in a shipment along with other guns from distributor from what I've heard. All the sold out right away. And some people made special orders of 10mm versions from TSE and got them.

 Attacking the importer of Tanfoglio? Stop being such a drama queen. I'm just pointing out that there may be a cheaper alternative. I don't understand why that offends you so much.

Point is:

1. TSE does not have any EAA Witnesses for sale and they don't now carry the line so you are not suggesting an alternative at all. Just historical pricing on a line they used to import but don't now.

2. The EAA Witness shown is the base Tanfoglio not the Combat Sport model - check out the Tanfoglio site so you are comparing apples and oranges.

So your cheaper alternative is no alternative at all.

Given personal commentary is not allowed on this board I won't comment on the drama queen comment. This isn't the first time you have gone out on the limb with statements that proved to be baseless. I recall the Tanfoglio 1911 comment about beng made in the Philipines. You seem to have a thing for Tanfoglio.

$291.43 is the cheapest I have found a blued Witness so far, and $355 for Wonderfinish, ambi.

$291.43 =333.64 CAD + $200 = $533.64, or less if it comes in with a lot from a distributor and not Questar special order.
