I believe that is a Lyman 1A tang sight that could be ordered on older Savage model 99 levers many, many years ago. I have a model 99 with an original lyman sight like that one made in 1939. Great find you see them come up on ebay now and again but they are becoming increasingly rare. Check out this website (note the space in http to avoid the hotlink):

Interesting

thanks for the info wetcoaster. How much would this thing be worth? A google search turned up everything from $65 USD to $200 USD.

$200 for a 2A SA maybe but not a 1A SA.

It's pretty banged up but the flip down peep is still intact, I'd hazard a guess that you'd get about $75-$80 for it on Ebay.

Condition has alot to do with sight collectors.

Here's a few of my Savage 1899 tangs.

I don't know near as much about it or it's value as a few other guys on this site. I have seen them up to 250$ on ebay BUT I believe in the U.S. market they go for more as model 99 collectors are buying everything up. I don't know what the rules are about shipping the sight to the U.S. and what it's value might be in Canadian.

Hopefully "Maddog" will see your thread on this site, he is a prominent savage collector here in Canada and will be able to give you as much information as anyone I have seen about the lyman and it's possible value. You might try PMing him to let him know about the thread. I am a member of a forum on the 24 hour campfire site for savage collectors where I seek advice now and again (where I have learned most of what I know) try scouting around there and doing some searching.
