hey all. i have a pre 64 winchester 94 lever, 30.30 and i wanna put an aperture/peep sight on it. anybody know the pros and cons of either one? i kinda gravitate to the lyman style tang, just cuz it's a little more historically appealing, but are they both similarly accurate and easy to use?

thanks..

Stay away from a tang sight on a 94 , trust me, they work, accuracy is outstanding , but they get in the way. Your hand does not fit the pistol grip proper, it folds down like crap . For the extra 2 inches of sight radious , not a good deal.
Lyman are all steel , more slim line than the Williams, but they are both excellent. And you get an extra 1/3 sight radious , coupled with an extremely fast accurate sight picture, can not go wrong. :D

X2, I have the same trouble with the tang sight on the levers, they get in the way!

Tang VS Reciever

These are both peep sights. Either one is very accurate, but it is your preference for use. The tang is closer to the eye and quiker to center but the reciever sight does not interfere when walking in the bush and does not fold by accident. Each is eqally adjustable for height and windage. Before you buy try looking through one and see which you like best. There is different size apperatures to try. My personal preference is the Williams recieversight with a little larger apperature. question for levi...

levi...i got confused by this:

"Lyman are all steel , more slim line than the Williams, but they are both excellent. And you get an extra 1/3 sight radious , coupled with an extremely fast accurate sight picture, can not go wrong."

do you mean with the lyman vs the williams receiver style you get 1/3 more sight radius? or 1/3 of an inch? can you tell me what you mean?

thanks for responding so quickly. cheers

corb

1/3 more distance from the standard rear sight thats mounted on the barrel . They both mount in the same location on the receiver. So lets say you got 12 inches from front sight to rear sight, you get 18 inches with a rx mounted peep sight , measurments just for example purposes may not be correct:D and with the tang sight you would have 20 inches.

I think alot of guys are getting confused on the tang vs reciever aspect of this.

The old Lyman tang sights were not windage adjustable unless it's been switched up with a #47 stem of which I've only seen one in my years, and I'm talking Winchesters not the 30 1/2 Savages.

Receiver sights aren't usually attached to the tang, hence, receiver NOT tang sight!

Now I don't wanna get into a picking fly#### outta pepper fight over this, I know there are specialised sights out there but for the most part were talking about common tang and receiver sights.

ahh..gotcha, 1/3 more than the original iron sight. je comprende..

thanks man.
It sure makes a big difference in accuracy , good choice if you get one. And sighting is a snap, then you even forget its there.
Oh , the rule for these wonderful sights, don't try and center the front sight in the hole, its automatic. The eye and gathering light tingy, just look at the front sight..

I wrote Lyman - the sights they currently offer have not been made of steel for many years. I ended-up getting the Williams FP for my pre-64 Win 94 since I already own a couple of them and can switch apertures between them.

Reciever sghts work best for Winnys & Marlins, tang is in the way.
Tangs work best for Sav 99s, windage is adjustable with a fine shim under one side or the other of the base. Although I do have a proper reciever on one Sav that works just fine:)
