I have Ruger in 40 cal, and it is falling apart, I had problems with extractor after 1000 rnds on few occasions and today right side of ambidexteros decocker fell out upon firing along with extractor. So I guess this is it for my Ruger, which by the way impressed me initially with accuracy and sights. Triger was always mushy but that didn't bother me too much. So I'm thinking of replacing it with another 40 cal like used Glock 22 or new Tangfolio, roughly the same price range. Glock is Glock but it would be used, Tangfolio a copy of CZ75 and would be new but I don't know much about them?
CZ is in the same class as Glock (highest quality)and Tangfolio is CZ75 copy does that mean Tangfolio is in the same class as Glock?

How do you rate Tangfolio?

Thanx.

If u want a replacement that is a 40cal. I would go norinco.
they make a lovely copy of the CZ for around $350, i think marstar has them in stock right now.
then you have enough money left over to get another type of norinco aswell. lol

I believe you can get the Tanfoglio Combat or combat sport in .40....on sale at Freedom Ventures.

But what is your verdict on Tangfolio guns?

Speaking of Norc, just how nice is it? I already have Norc M1911 but it needs a trigger job, otherwise it is alright. How about Norc's SIG 40cal?

I personally never shot a Tanfoglio but I hear they are improved copies of CZ. Or even go for the original CZ75B. I'd look at an XDM-40, too. I have that one - and love it.

I sure like mine (Tanfoglio Combat B 9mm) I've only put around 500 round through it so far and I bought it used. Nice groupings, everythings "tight" on it, and the trigger pull is great for stock. It shoots as nice or better that several others I tryed againts it in back to back test. I would not hesitate to buy another one, Just my .02 cents. It really boils down to what "you" want and what for.;)

Jericho 941 is a based of a CZ-75 and the parts are made by Tangfoglio if I recall correctly. Best of both worlds if you are looking at either. Pick up a new Jericho in .40 for about $600-$650 or so.

I am sorry to bring this old thread back up, but this comment made me come up with a question. How do you find out whatever is on sale at Freedom Ventures? There's not much you can get from their website, other than links to manufacturers and a regular price list.

I am also in the market for a CZ style handgun, but haven't made up my mind which model to get, yet. I know Tanfoglios were very popular a while back with shooters I knew in Latin America and also in the US, before CZ found a distributor for them. So, if I can find a Tanfoglio at a better price, I'd surely go for it. CZ prices have gone up quite a bit in the last couple of years. Thanks.

Tanfo

didnt like't at first, but mi cousin's a cop in venezuela, who use a g17 at work, actually use a tanfoglio force 99 conpact for ccw , so after a month or so, I dump my glock 25 and now everytime Im back home my force carry 9mm, live at my waist 24\7 :p

I have the Tanfoglio "L" model in 9MM and I bought a .40cal top end for it. The Tans have a better grip IMHO than the excellent grip of the CZ. This is due to the fact Tanfoglio repositioned the mainspring allowing for a deeper cut underneath the beavertail.

My gun has approx. 5K of 9MM through it and another 2K of .40cal. The gun remains as tight as the day I bought it. The .40cal has polygonial rifling and I use only cast bullets through it. I have yet to experience any leading in the barrel.

I am extremely happy with the guns performance in either caliber.

If you are looking for a .40cal I wouldn't pass on the Tanfoglio. Nor would I pass on the CZ in .40cal either.

The Norinco .40 cal copy of the CZ is reported to be very good as well.

I am not doing any competitive shooting at this moment, but I'd like to try my hand at it sometime in the future. However, I have no specific discipline in sight, yet. I may try something like IPSC Stock Division or IDPA SSP, so a gun that qualifies in one of those categories would be nice.

My eyes were originally laid on a CZ75 SP-01 Shadow, because it just feels great in my hand. Problem is, it's too heavy for SSP, although I know it can be lightened a bit. I haven't fired it either, I have only fired a very old specimen of the CZ75 and if I remember correctly, the trigger was a little too long for me in DA and its pull was horrendously heavy. The Shadow feels like a completely different gun in my hand, I love it.

I have also fired a Tanfoglio model similar to the present GOLD CUSTOM ERIC 2007, but that is a whole different animal. Loved it, but it's like comparing a Ferrari to a Civic, there's just no comparison.

Is the Model L on sold by The Wood Joynt this model?

How different is the grip from the CZ Shadow? What kind of holster are you using with your Tanfoglios? Are the grips and mags interchangeable with the CZ's?

Thanks a lot for your answers guys, I really appreciate them.

Freedom Ventures is the distributer for Tanfoglios and he can best direct you to a dealer for the Model "L". If you have problems reaching the trigger of a CZ 75B then you will likely not find the Tanfoglios much better although is is a slightly less reach. I should point out the Model "L" weighs to much for SSP Division but fits in ESP Division. The shorter version of the gun makes weight for SSP Division - Combat Sport.

The difference in the grip is small but noticeable. The undercut just beneath the beavertail allows for a deeper grip and for me is slightly more comfortable than the grip on the Shadow/75B series of pistols. Grip is a very subjective thing so you want to try the gun before buying.
What I find comfortable may not turn your crank at all.

I use Blade Tech holsters and mag holders.

Some Tanfoglio mags will work in CZ 75/85 and Shadows, some don't. I found this to be the case and pretty much stick to CZ mags in CZ guns and Tanfoglio mags in my Tanfoglio. The grips are not interchangeable.

For SSP Division for new shooters I would suggest you look at the CZ 75B/85 Combat, STI GP 6C, Glock or M&P series of pistols in 9MM. Any of these brands will serve you well in IPSC Production or IDPA SSP Division.

Deals can be had for vitually new GP 6 C, Glock 17's and M&P's, check out th EE section. The latter two makes are dominating IDPA SSP division but that may speak more to the top shooters being paid to use the guns but does speak to the guns abilities to perform under match conditions. New I would go with the Glock 34 or M&P Pro. If you find you want something else later both brands sell well on the used market.

Good info Canuck44, thanks for your answer.

I want to stick with an all steel gun, I don't fancy plastic too much. I don't really have the time and the resources to become good enough to shoot against the top guys anyways, so it won't make much of a difference which gun I shoot, whenever I get around to really doing it. :)

It was was back around 1988-89 that I shot that CZ-75 and by then it was a real relic rental at a small shooting range. If I remember correctly, it had a trigger which was a little straighter than the new models have, so that might explain the long reach I felt. I have held the Shadow and the trigger reach is just very nice for me. It would just be nice if I could find a Tanfoglio in the Montreal area just to compare, but they don't seem to be that common around here.

FV doesn't have a picture of the L model in their catalog, that's why I asked. I like the slide profile of the P21L, but don't like the one on the Combat models. It's just a matter of preference, I know, but...

If the L is too heavy for SSP, I think I'll just stick to the Shadow for now. I do however really like the looks of the P21L and might just come back for it at a later date, only that time in 10mm. I've been wanting a 10mm gun for years! ;)

Unless you put the Shadow on a diet, as above it to is to heavy for SSP division.

The "L" in the Model "L" stands for long. The gun has a 5" barrel. The shorter barreled gun weighs less due to the shorter slide and barrel. The frames are identical.

tanfoglio's used to be an inexpensive alternative to the CZ.
now they seem to be 90% of the price of the origional...

i have never heard anything less than an ABSOLUTELY GLOWING report about the cz tactical sport in .40 ( what i will get next when its time for a proper good gun)

Ellwood Epps in orillia Ontario has a couple in stock (maybe in 9mm too? or e-mistake)

i have a gorilla's hands and LOOOVE the cz grip.

i'll take the original Over the fart of a discounted copy. besides the internals are NOT the same (as per CZ usa? website).. and parts are what we're after when we want to upgrade our current guns.

I have a norinco NP-30 and love it.. although it is not a "fine" firearm, its fun and rugged.
and probably the inexpensive start to a great gun.

your answers in short... cheap=norinco otherwise CZ IMHO

I have a shadow and love the grip. I held a tanfoglio limited .40 and the grip was even better. Hopefully my future standard division gun.
