Tannerite in Canada

So Ryan? Where did you go on this? Thought du jour... The components are not illegal, but when combined, they become an explosive. So would it not be illegal once they're combined?
Apparently you need a permit for explosives, and I doubt they issue them for shennanigans on the weekend.
But ya, if it's legal and Natural Resources Canada says it's ok and they go up for sale on SFRC, I will need at least 10 pounds. And most likely I will need legal council!

WARNING! This is a Class 3 nitro compound explosive.
"No person shall send a sample [of the explosive] to the chief inspector, unless instructed to do so."

The amount of rules and regulations involved in getting a possession or manufacturing license for explosives is ridiculously long. I will have a better chance of buying 10 pounds of unicorn meat.
I hope I have thouroughly crushed everyone's hopes and dreams.
Thank you and goodnight!

Apparently you need a permit for explosives,

Not true at all, if that was the case, you'd need a license to buy gasoline or propane, or model rocket engines, or fireworks (which you can actually mail order perfectly legally in Canada - and if you know your chemistry, you know which colour of roman candle contains the wickedest stuff)... or or or.... any one of a zillion different things, many of which are quite common.

The license issues tend to come up in terms of quantities and intended usage, and certain very specific types of explosives. But in general, you just need photo ID showing you're over 18 to buy all kinds of fun stuff, and no ID at all to buy some pretty interesting things.

Someone already posted the link earlier in the thread, but going through different chunks of the regs can be eye-opening. CTRL+F for "No Permit Required" and "Rules For Users" (there are several links for each of the above), and prepare to have your mind blown. Whatever else you blow up, is entirely at your own discretion:

You can make tannerite with stuff you buy at any pharmacy it's used in certain products like hint hint ice packs.. It's a mixture of that and some metal dust. I was looking into it to see if it's legal and if you goto the explosives Canada website it says it's a no no to play with. It's not an explosive unless you mix it and you can't transport it with out a permit if you premix it and setting it off you have to be x away from rail lines, bridges, ect. It's on the list of stuff you need a permit for and to get that for target shooting isn't going to happen. It might but I don't see it happening.

I was looking into what you need to actually get it you need special permits and getting them isn't easy as most of them you have to have a reason I even called and asked the explosive branch who sent me through several people till one of them actually pointed it out and said well this and that and to do it you need the following to get that you have to this. So it comes down to do you know someone with an explosives license and will they train you and then you apply. I already have that as my Grandmother has her license due to blowing stuff up on the farm. Need to break rocks some how. You use to be able to buy tnt at the local hardware store.
