Anyone know where I can find a 1/2" X 28 tap and die? Cananadian Tire and Home Depot have been checked. I'm guessing I'll have to go to a specialty machine tool supplier. 28TPI seems to be a bit of an oldball outside of the AR world??? I've got a Krink suppressor and Dlask barrel and I'm having a bugger of a time putting them together. I figure I need to chase the threads to remove the park' build-up so the threads aren't so tight together. Any other idea's? Thanks :) !

are you sure of the 28tpi?as a fine thread only has 20tpi..if it is 28 you might be in for bit of a search...but i will check at work tomorrow for such a die..if we dont have i might be able to find out from our suppliers of one..
do you need the tap or the die or both?

As the above post says the 1/2x28 isn't a standard thread. It's an extra fine thread and crappy tire won't have it. You can order these taps and dies from any machine supply place and I've ordered this kind of oddball sizes and metrics from KBC tools. There's one in Toronto somewhere.

http://www.kbctools.com/can/main.cfm or 1-888-522-8665

Maybe someone here has the tap and die for you to borrow to clean up your threads. I only have smaller stuff. Good luck.

As others have mentioned You will find the tap and die 1/2 x 28 you are looking for from KBC actually they list the 1/2" x 12-14-16-18-24-27-28-30-32-36-40-48 they are in the special thread tap and die section. I once needed a tap and die 7/32 x 40 for a Lyman Peep sight...they had it!!! By the way you can go to their web site and order their catalogue, it's a 1000 pages of tools ...very handy

I have one. A tap that is. What do you need chased? If you send it, depending on what it is, I'll do it for you. If it's external, what you need a die for, I would just chase it. I could also do that. Depending on what it is.
Let me know.

Thanks for your help guys :D ! I went to SB Simpson here in Burlington and ordered a tap from their catalogue. Cost a little more ($26+tax) but it saves me the drive out to Mississauga. Should be here in a couple days.
