Looking at a mini14 and wondering about mags. Has anyone used these, and how do you like them? MAG4805 is the sku.

Is feeding reliable?

Is it limited by a rivet or internally? Can it be stripped for cleaning?

They cannot be disassembled for cleaning without almost or completely wrecking them. Not bad for casual use I guess, might as well just use regular OEM mags, the 5/20 and 5/30 ruger mags are 100% reliable and... just better.

My LGS can't get them, just 5/5 mags. Any word on who stocks ruger factory 5/30's?

I got factory 5/20s through a z t e c h armory, they imported and pinned some for me. I think it ended up being around $50/mag
tapco is alright as well if the price is right, I sold mine when the ruger mags showed up.

I had 3 tapco magazines, one would rock and lock into the rifle without issue. 2 would be a huge pita to insert, taking a min or two to get them to finally lock in.
Once in though, I don't recall ever having a problem with feeding.

This is about 3 years ago now but when I last bought factory 5/20's and 5/30's, I bought from IRUNGUNS.com. Took about 6 weeks from placing my order for them to show up at my door. Worth every penny.

And in case you're wondering;

Yes, I Run Guns will pin it to 5/30 before it crosses the border. No worries there.

Never had any issues with the Gen2 Tapco mags (either Mini 14 or AR) and they were readily available locally (for me at least) and reasonably during the PMAG shortage of 2012.

Stripping them down is easier than a Pmag (no rivet) once you know the trick and they are Tavor safe (unlike Gen2 Pmags)

Tapco told me flat out that they designed the mags be pretty much impossible to take apart without damaging them. To prevent anyone from tampering with the extended follower. Not sure how you are getting them apart so easily.

I like to think myself smarter than a couple hunks of plastic and steel.

Modifying the magazine capacity would be illegal (same as removing a rivet) not sure why they thought they had to make them impossible to take apart.
