Tapco or Ati

I have tried both. Still own the ATI. :)

My former Tapco and her pretty cousin:

It really amounts to preference. I'm not really into all those picatinny rails and other "tactitcool" doo-dads.

Take a look at the website of "Section 8" located in Lethbridge, AB...they are the Canadian distributors for TAPCO.......have always been good to deal with....

Love the options you get with the tapco. Got one a year ago and have slowly added to her since. Foregrip, butt pad, red dot, and i have a bipod and rail covers coming soon.

If I recall correctly, the ATI that Kurgan has on his SKS required some minor adjustments to the grip area, the upper handguard, and the joint on the folder. The tapco I have fit right out of the box with no wiggle and no adjustments necessary.

As for looks, the ATI folders have, in my opinion, a drooping line that makes the rifle look bowed. The Tapco's seem more straight and boxy. Really depends on what you like, but I recommend googling all of the stocks available for the SKS and seriously comparing similar sized pics. Examine the lines carefully. What looks cool at first glance may get uglier once the novelty wears off. With the price of these stocks, I would recommend doing due diligence.

I have owned both Tapco and ATI and sold both. Laminate is the way to go. The plastic stocks mentioned here are cheap wanna bee's that don't turn the gun into a magical assault rifle.

The ATI folder I have required minimal fitting, as noted above (all easy though, and took half the time it takes to clean an SKS!). The Tapco I had required some grinding of the upper handguard to ensure a tight fit. Overall, both require minimal fitting. The Tapco is heavier and stronger and tighter fitting. The ATI folder is ligher, compact, and with minimal fitting, also a tight fit: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=707498

It all depends on your tastes. BTW, I was looking at an SKS at Fishing World yesterday in the new ATI folder stock, and I thought it look very cool. I would say it looked better than the Tapco... just say'in.

Another good point regarding "novelty". Anything that was not designed for a rifle can be considered a novelty, and quite fankly, most of them "wear off" for me... and I end up selling stuff just as fast as I buy stuff. :) The fun part of gun ownership.
