Tapco stocks....Just for looks ????

I have been debating over in my head for some time now, to bubba a SKS. I have been trying to figure out as much as I can about Tapco stocks, Tapco mags, front hand grips, and basically whatever upgrades there are out there for the SKS.

Do you guys thing that overall, a Tapco stock is really just to make the SKS look cool, and more modern? or are there any benefits to doing a bubba job on a SKS?

I can see the benefits of using a Tapco Magazine, if you lived in the states and could actually fill it up to 20 rounds, so really for us, its slower than to use stripper clips, so I can't really see any benefits to the magazine, other than for cosmetic reasons.

What are everyones thoughts on doing a Bubba job with some Tapco products? is it just for looks, and does'nt benefit in any other way? Can you mount a 3 point sling on a Tapco, and carry it in the ready, upright position? I would see that as a Benefit.
 
It was simple for me. The ergomomics of the stock, such as "lengh of pull". It put the iron sights back in focus. I has tried several stocks from ATI, Ramline, Choate the Tapco t6 I like the best.
 
I'm going to get the TAPCO intrafuse (sp?) stock for mine. Looks way better and can adjust the length of pull to keep your nose off your thumb. I'll probably grab one of the mags too, just for looks as youi say. It'll get lots of attention at the deer camp...
BTW those stocks are highly rated and there are some good photos and youtube videos about them. I hate the folding stocks.
 
I'm of the opinion that any cheap injection molded stock is junk, especially for the SKS. Quality aftermarket parts and the SKS are pretty much mutually exclusive because the SKS is such a cheap rifle. If you've got a nice Russian laminate or original hardwood stock, I would leave it as is. They are more sturdy and come with the front stock bolt that the barrel rests on and that the rifle was originally designed to have.

Anyway, I'm pretty satisfied with my Tapco. Its best feature is the adjustable length of pull, as I am quite taller than your average Chinese conscript. I don't see myself getting the 5/20 round mag, as 1) they're way overpriced here and 2) they get in the way when shooting from a bench or prone as I find they protrude too far downwards.

I may get a detachable steel 5/10 rounder for looks though.

And while we're on the topic of cheap accessories; the person who invented the 'see-thru' scope mount should be dragged into the street and given a firm kick to the junk.
 
What about mounting a sling? Are you able top mount a 3 point tactical sling on a Tapco stock properly? Or can you only mount a regular sling? ( the way a hunter carry's the gun over his back, from his shoulder)

Im just curious about the Tapco stock and carrying a 3 point sling, so that if I am Deer hunting, I can walk with the SKS in front of me, all ready to go, and just lift it up and aim, and pull the trigger.
 
There is a rear sling 'swivel' similar to the AR-15 type on my Tapco... not sure if newer models have changed. You've also got the front mount that's on the barrel.

Just mount a 1-point sling and let er' hang.
 
I bought a Tapco stock last year to put on my chinese SKS. After installing it, i didnt like the feeling, i even not shot the rifle so i removed it and sell on the EE. Ofc adjustable lenght of pull is great but i still prefered to return with the military wood stock. I like my SKS,s in their original configuration,that's all:)

I hear you, but I have a few in original state, and a few to play. I can always go back if I get bored. I keep my vz52/57, cz858 and russian guns the way they were issued, they're the real meal deal, surplus. My 'rincos are for dress up fun.

X2 on that, I tried a synthetic folding stock for the SKS and just wasnt happy with it. Went back to wood and its stayin that way. Its a norinco so I am modding it a little but nothing matte black or too tacticool. IMO if you want a pistol grip and good ergonomics, go with the 858. It is (was) an assault rifle, and it does it way better than the SKS can. The SKS is noticably heavier, especially up front where it makes it alot more difficult to support the rifle while doing mag changes. The 858 was designed for quick, easy mag changes and trumps the SKS six ways from sunday. I still love my SKS to death but its a battle rifle.
 
90% looks 10% functionality.

Bought two a few years ago to put on a pair Norc sks'...felt cheap and flimsy...like it wouldn't be able to take much abuse. The only benifit besides the lcf was the length of pull as others have mentioned. Ended up trading the whole thing for something else and (still have to other for s**ts and giggles...wife likes it, thats about it)

Good for the range but not if you are going to really use your rifle hard.
 
I have read that some guys have attached the front bolt on SKS of the Tapco stocks also, making it just as solid as the original wood stocks.

Really to me personally, just have the extra length seems almost worthwhile in the price of the Tapco stock. To have the matching Tapco magazine, would be really worthwhile if you lived in the the States, and could actually fill the magazine up with 20 rounds. Its kind of pointless though for us Canucks, but it does make the SKS with a Tapco stock, Tapco mag, and even a front handgrip, look like quite a modern assault rifle.

Does anyone ever use a SKS in a course were most guys use a AR-15 ?

I like tapco so much I have two different stocks, but will be gettin another sks soon.
 
I don't trust their magazines. I don't use plastic feed lips on my 10/22, why would I want it on a centerfire?
I do have one, but I haven't shot it much. Be nice if there was a range closer than 1hr+ away from me.
