tape end of firearm

Hi guys, first season shooting blackpowder, bought the new T/C triumph and couldn't be happier with it. Shooting 100gr. of 777 and the Hornady 250gr sabots.
Quick question; when I'm out in snow or wet weather do I need to put a piece of tape over the end of my barrel to prevent moisture from going down and if so do I need to remove it before I shoot? Thanks.

I've never covered the muzzle on my m/l , and this is the wet coast. However maybe others have , and I don't believe it would be necessary to remove a small single layer of tape. It will blow through or off easily.

I always cover mine but not sure you really have to but I do the same on centrefire rifles so I figure it doesn't hurt to keep the dirt and moisture out. I shoot right through mine all the time. I just use some electrical tape.

Never cover mine, have hunted some pretty darn wet, snotty weather with the ole .58, a few misfires but that was completely due to wet nipples.

the tape idea for the muzzle ,is to prevent mud or snow from getting lodged in the muzzle. so long as you don't fall and jam the muzzle down you're ok. it doesn't have to be removed to be shot, as the danger comes from having snow or mud down in the muzzle not a piece of tape across it.

I used to tape when I first started out - the whole due dilligence thing. Not required.

Use a condom, lubricated of course....I'm serious. I have to tie mine several times to stay on(XXL) but they work. They were used in Vietnam too!

You used to be able to buy little barrel condoms. They were even black.

Some muzzle condoms are camo - I suppose so they couldn't see you coming

Everyone in our moose hunting group uses tape on their muzzle -as do most of the local guys I run into at Dryden. It blows off long before the bullet gets there and can save you major hassles - when bush walking you never know if snow, ice, or a twig willl drop in, and if you fall, it can save you the hassle of cleaning out the barrel. I once took a spill grouse hunting and wound up with 4 inches of clay in the barrels on my .410 coach gun - was a major PITA to remove
