Tape on the end of a rifle?

Taping the end of a barrel is a good idea when applied to firearm designs where you can't see down the barrel from the breech. Any protection is better than no protection.

For hinge guns (SxS's, U/O's, singles), IMO an even better method is to open the action, remove the shells, and look down the barrels.

No matter what you do, it's still possible for an obstruction to occur. For example, even with the barrel taped, you open the action, remove the shells, and stop for a rest. While you're not watching, a mouse finds the nice warm cave and moves in. Seconds later, you resume hunting and reload. BAM!!

My advice is not to get paranoid about it. Nothing beats a nice double gun for a lot of reasons; this is another. Shoot doubles. Check down the barrels often. You'll be fine.
