I've never taped my muzzle because I never viewed a few drops of water going down the barrell as a problem. However, I do see value in taping the muzzle when hunting in snow, to prevent a plugged barrel.

Does it matter what type of tape is used? Masking tape, electrical tape?

You can get the the rifle condoms in the muzzleloading section, for about 3 dollars. More of a concern of keeping powder dry with muzzleloaders. I am not sure if they would fit tight enoungh on a rifle, but a small elastic would fix that.

I use electrical tape also. Once over the muzzle and 4 or 5 turns around the muzzle end as spare tape just in case I have to retape the muzzle if I take a shot.

............................My ex wife and i might have lasted longer if i taped her muzzle.

LOL

i cut the fingers off of small sized black rubber gloves from the dollar store. pinkies work for even the smallest barrels. its unobtrusive and doesnt leave sticky tape crap on your barrel, especially if you fire the gun with tape on it and it melts the tape glue on.
a pack of finger cots will work even better -- but youll get everyone making smartass remarks about what you plan on doing with a 'condom' on your gun barrel
