TAR-21 issue

Hey Tavor Nutters, I've run into a minor issue with my rifle. I was doing some shooting at the range when my charge handle stopped latching in the forward position when the bolt was locked back. It just sort of flops around.

I got it home and took it apart. This is what I found. It looks like a pin has come out and a piece has departed. I don't remember if there is a pin and some thing else that has gone AWOL or if this is normal. Thoughts?

Doesn't look like anything is missing, no pin goes in that hole.

The charging handle uses this spring to hook into a shelf in the front of the charging handle slot.

That is the only thing that holds the handle forwards. If it doesn't latch into that shelf, it'll just slide freely on an open bolt like an unlatched AR15 handle will. The plastic charging handle applies pressure on the spring hook to keep it engaged. If it's broken and can't apply downward pressure on the spring, it may not stay locked in place. Inspect these areas for damage, I can't tell if it's broken from these photos.

This. If your CH wont stay forward, trybending that spring away from the CH, should put more force on the CH capture ridge up front to better engage it.

Thanks guys, I'll give that a whirl. I.pulled the rail off of the right side to compare the latching notches and the left side is rounded a bit.

At one point I had an opinion that if you bump the charging handle on something by accident(since it’s at the corner of the rifle), the spring may prevent the Bolt from returning back to battery. Of course there’s other counter acting forces involved with returning. My point is I tried the floppy charging handle “configuration” and it doesn’t seem to bother me a whole lot. Just my opinion though.

Hmm, my charging handle has been loose since I got my TAR21. Same with my friends one. We chalked it up as just being the way it's supposed to be. It felt cheap from the get go. So it's not supposed to be?

You're gonna have to define "loose"
The charging handle is a lever, designed to assist you in unlocking the bolt. There's going to be a bit of play to ensure reliable function. If the bolt locks back and the charging handle stays forward, it is working as designed and there's nothing wrong with it.

The only way I can get it to stay forward after charging the bolt back (on an empty mag) is to keep it pointing straight. As soon as I move the rifle around, the charging handle will slide back to front depending on if I'm dipping the barrel or raising it. It can never "lock" forward when I push it all the way forward.
