Tar 21 vs x95

+1 for the mag release. I've never done it on mine, nor has anyone who has used mine, including very novice shooters. What I have heard though, is people getting crud in their X95's, causing the mag release to stop functioning because the bar from the button to the mag got mucked up. Same for winter when some condensation got inside and they tried to hit the mag release only to find the button/rod frozen.
I also never had an issue with the TAR mag release. The TAR *DID* have a very hard time inserting a mag on a closed bolt, to the point where it would appear to be locked in only to fall out when you brought it to your shoulder or started running. I'm convinced that's the real culprit.
The infamous inrangeTV mud test on youtube- basically they were unfamiliar with how the rifle functions. The left side button is the "real" magazine release, actually attached to the transfer bar. The Right side button for right handers is just a lever that activates the left side button. In the video, the gunk had jammed the right side button, and it took them a while to even think to push the "real" button on the left side - which worked.
The X95 also has a tertiary magazine release in case both front buttons are jammed. The magazine catch itself in the buttstock is a see-saw that can be depressed to release the magazine. THAT will always work.
They get mad at you when you point this out to them, haha!

I own an X95 and have spent quite a bit of time with the tavor. I will be buying another X95 and not the tavor even though the price differences. To me, the X95 feels better.
If I had simply the Tavor; I'd be happy with it as well. They are both great rifles. The X95 is just the next step up; oddly feels less bulky, the magazine release is good, grip angle is good, and the charging handle is located in a better spot for me.
I'd just try both rifles and put cost aside. Buy once, cry once.
