I've got a bit of a dilemma....
I've got a couple of 'plinker' 22's...a Neos and a Ruger Single Six...
I would like a unit with a little more inherent accuracy...one you could 'shoot for groups'.
I'm torn between something like a semi...S&W 41...and a revolver...S&W 617.
They're in the same ballpark costwise...just not sure which would perform better.
I could use the 'collective wisdom' of other board members in my choice.
(I would like to hear objective thoughts as opposed to 'personal preference'):p

It all depends on whether you shoot outside during the winter.

My father and his buddy used to have 41s, my dad's buddy did fairly well casually competing with it. I will always have a soft spot for them since the 41 was the first firearm I ever shot (5 years old).

The 617 with a 10 shot cylinder would be my next purchase if I ahd not bought a MKIII hunter a bit ago quite cheap. Shooting outside with a revolver during the winter makes it MUCH easier to clean up after. I have shot the K22 masterpiece (I think that it was waht it was called), and it shot a whole lot better than I could.

Revolvers as design have no future and as far as I know they are useless for competition anyway. Why even consider revolvers talking about target 22 handgun?

I guess you can say they have no future in competitionif you don't compete or have any trophies or awards. Revolvers for slow fire are fine, some guys shoot them just as fast and as accurate as a semi, you get used to it any practice enough either one is just an extension of your hand.

Well, I guess I'll find out....bought a new 617 from Al Simmon's today....
While I was there.... I bought a new S&W 645 (45ACP)!
I figured that I had been good this year...and maybe Santa hadn't heard yet!;)
