Hi I am new to shooting with shotguns. I have a Remington 1100 with a 30 inch barrel with screw in chokes. The barrel says on it 2-3/4 target loads only. What should I be looking for when buying shells? Will I need to get another barrel to hunt with this gun?

Thanks
Mark

The newer target barrels from Remington have larger gas ports than the field barrels, probably due to the trend towards lighter (mouse fart) loads for targets by a lot of shooters. They say 1-1/8 ounce loads are the maximum recommended. You might not have a problem with standard hunting loads, but it would be "beating" up the action with very fast cycling

Before you shoot anything more than 1 1/8 oz loads I would contact Rem & see what they say. I would only use that barrel for targets. All 2 3/4 will fit but might not be good for the gun.

ask Remington. It's hard to say what they meant by "Target Load" at the time as target loads have lightened over time. you see a lot of 1 oz loads now, not so much years ago.
