Hello,

My kids want to get an airgun to shoot inside in our long basement for practice but I was wondering if anyone could direct me to some diy pellet catcher/stopper idea so it doesnt rebound everywhere or break something.

Thank You

As kids we used cardboard boxes stuffed with paper...very effective but a bit messy.. otherwise a piece of angled sheet metal into a sandbox is great. Check your local scrap dealer. Hang a old blanket behind for any wild shots

I have this one and it works good
Havnt used the hanging targets
I cut cardboard to fit the slotted front
There is still some bounce back though

I started out with a acklands catalog: too many rebounds unless you switch aiming points every ten shots. Then I went to the metal trap, no rebounds but noisy plus I was seeing a bit of (lead?) dust around it on the floor. Ended up with the duct seal setup, the most expensive as I recall, but quiet, no dust, minimal rebounds but you gotta move your aim point around again and cleaning it was messy.
I don’t currently shoot in the basement but I saw a plan for a sandbox thingy in an ancient Popular Mechanics magazine that I’d try next
Whatever you end up doing, safety glasses, check for lead dust

Wooden box with1 inch of "duct seal" in the bottom is silent and will stop and hold a magnum springer pellet.

You will need 6-8 blocks depending on how big your box is.
Mine has over 10,000 pellets trapped.
I'm curious if you have ever weighed your dyi trap with the spent pellets:eek:

I have it under my workbench, the box is on rollers and has a handle on the front to pull it out to change targets.
Haven't picked it up in years.:D

Thank you for all your replies guy....yea i might try some kind of steal plate with maybe a semi mud flap that would stop the bullet so it wouldnt make lead dust I guess with some kind of funnel just in case for some reason one wanna go out his way hahah.

The cadets use a wooded frame with a piece of coro-plast as a target backer. And a loose hanging piece of cordura the width of the frame will stop a pellet.

I have both the Champion trap and a homemade wooden box filled with rubber mulch. I used 2 pieces of aluminum angle on the vertical sides to contain a piece of core coreplast plastic. This retains the mulch and gives me a place to mount the target. I shot it with a 30 fpe .22 at 5 yards and no issues.

I use a plastic 'milk crate' with a Sally-ann baking sheet @ 45*, deflecting down into a folded up bath towel. My 22 CO2 really dents the 'sheet'; punched holes in the first one so I got a heavier one. I tape targets with masking tape. I don't use this a lot but functional for those rainy days.
